Two boys in her class have their ears pierced but no girls. So far she liked the idea but didn't like the idea to the pain of the piercing. Has now been told by one of the boys that it hurts but not that much.
I've had my own done when I was about 14 which was when my mother let me. I can't see the problem in been younger as long as they don't wear dangles (friend has ripped earlobe age 10 with dangles).

MY dd got hers done at 6 ( I was tricked - tricked i tell you!!)

I had mine done at 5

I agree that children are beautiful as they are and need no adornment...but I also REALLY think its ok. She looks after them, and she is only allowed age appropriate earrings/ plain gold.

Interesting - I do think it is a British thing - being against earpiercing. In canada it seems more seen.

Just talking to a friend telling me story's of teenage year and piercing friends ears. She was joking with me about taking away he right of passage of teenage year when you do your own ears because your parents won't let you get them done.
Pester power is starting to get to me and still don't see a problem except the british view on children with earrings. I still not 100% sure as not sure about the use of the gun but can't find anyone doing it with a needle. Don't want to go to claire's but were else do you go.

MIne had hers done at 8 after much nagging. Despite following the aftercare routine religeously, they never healed. So we took the earrrings out and let them close. She tried again at nine, this time we went to a proper piercing studio, told them all about the first time. They said it may have been because we took her swimming too early or because we used overly strong detergent for the cleaning.

So, had them done again. Followed the new improved aftercare to the letter. SAME DEAL. They never closed up. They kept on weeping. They made lumps of scar tissue in the lobe.

The whole thing has been really upsetting for her. They've been out for months now and the lumps seem to have gone and the holes completely closed up. DD is very upset about it. I still have no idea why this happened but I wanted to warn you that it can. However, I'm assuming its rare because I haven't heard of it happening to anyone else.

Spidermama - it may have been the metal of the earrings. I can only leave earrings in for a long time (overnight) if they are made of surgical steel or titanium, even 24 carat gold will irritate me and I am 33 and had my ears pierced when I was 11!

If she didn't try with titanium then it might be something to try in the future if she wants to have a go again.

lexcat - only proper piercing places will do it with a needle it seems and a lot of those won't pierce under 14s even with a parent there, I asked on a body piercing forum to find somewhere.

Thanks rachw1 will try that.
I myself can't wear anything but silver but I was 15 before I had my ears done and 23 before I had my nose peirced and still the same thing can only wear silver. Lucky I like silver over gold and it cheaper. Not convinced having your ear done at a younger age makes any differents to if you can't tolerate certain metals.
