Naughty words...

Entertaining piece in the Guardian today here - particularly liked 'What's the point of taking me shopping if you're not going to bloody well buy me anything!'

One of DH's colleagues' kids once complained to his mom, in a supermarket, loudly, "Daddy won't let me play with his bollocks!"

I've always told my kids, 'if you use that language, people will think I'm a bad mother'. It worked for a number of years, but now dd1 thinks it's fun to make me look a bad mother, so it's backfired on me.

We play with the idea of swearing, but the forbidden words are "bum", "stupid" and "fat". The last two he picked up from Thomas books! DS1 knows these aren't good words to use, but we do sometimes giggle about "bum".

I don't know what we'll do when he picks up more sweary sorts of swear words. He went through a brief period of saying "Shut your cakehole fishface" (thanks, Quentin Blake), which he thought had something to do with holes in roads, but thankfully that passed.

My dd went through a stage of saying budder. Oh bugger I must have said it alot. I can tell you, it was a real wake up call, she also said buddy as in buddy hell. As you can probably guess dh and I washed our mouths out with soap and water and have never used these words in her presence again, well not often and shes never said them since. Thank buddy god for that, shes a gorgeous little budder and I felt just buddy awful.

We had one outbreak of "bugger", but we changed it into "wugga".

Every so often DS1 says "oh. my. god." Exactly as I say it, or rather, try not to say it.

I don't know if its boys or 4 year olds but in DS's pre-school there's a lot of 'you're a poo-poo head' which I must admit I've used myself with DS in play in a kind of 'well if you can't beat them (or beat it out of them , ya may as well join 'em'

twiggy, DS2 (11) still calls DS1 a poohead. Makes me cringe!

DD (2.5) likes 'stupid' and 'shut up!' both of which leave me writhing with cringesome feelings. She seems to get them both from her older brothers. Despite being failry innocuous words, they sound vile coming from a 2 year old . Desperately trying to drill it into the kids and DH that we must use 'Be quiet' instead of 'Shut up', before DD starts repeating it at nursery....

Yes poo poo and pooey are popular words here too. sigh... On the worst days I sometimes think I'd almost like to hear the f word instead just for a bit of variety...!!!

my best mates little girl (4) turned round to me in boots a few months ago after i told her not to touch things on the shelves and said "oh fuck off will ya" - well i was mortified! I nearly fell out wiht my mate over it because she didnt tell her off at all.... just laughed to me about it. I dont find it funny when such strong language comes out the mouths of babes... jess is only 6 months old, but me and dh refuse to swear with her about.

Yesterday we were driving along and i saw the traffic warden who gave me a parking ticket. She is awful and i just shouted out, 'COW!' ds thought this was very funny and also shouted out cow! I realised how horrible this sounded and had to say it was a game where we all had to shout out animals! Needless to say this carried on all day with HORSE!, COW!, PIG,SHEEP!!!! That will teach me!

Jess' Mummy - my god daughter (who share's your DD's name!) said to her Mum when told to go to her room
"No, I'm not going to my fing room" (she was about 6 or 7)
My friend who was trying so hard to be a good Mummy and had always planned what she would say in such a situation (Now, darling, we don't use words like that do we? etc) said (shouted)
"Yes, you are going to your fing room....." Ah well, we can but try.....

My DS1 shouted "sex" really loudly in church once - right in the middle of the sermon

tommy - i know what you mean, but im not really suprised.... my best mate is a horror for swearing - ALL THE TIME! The way i have been brought up is that swearing is for those that cannot think of alternative words to say! I will admit i swear, but by no means unless necessary! Usually when im angry with DH! With DH being in the army, he is a compulsive swearer but since he married me, its strange to hear a swear word out of his mouth!!! I sound so stuck up now - im sorry.....

When my DD was 4, she gave her baby brother a yoghurt and somehow he managed to open it by himself. She was so shocked she shouted 'f*ing hell, he opened it!' I was so shocked to hear her say it but I almost burst out laughing! (I know, naughty me!) but that is not a phrase we use at all, so I have no idea where she heard it.

DS (2.10) loves the 'poo head' at the moment. He calls everyone it. I'm pleased to say, after a few months of it, he is finally stopped saying it. Or at least stopped saying it as often!
