DD1 (5) is quite sensitive but a terrible moaner. Over the last 3 weeks she's becoming increasingly clingy with me, worse with her moaning, constantly wanting cuddles, saying how she hasn't had a good day because she hasn't got to spend time with me, how she misses me and sometimes doesn't remember what I look like etc. She draws a lot of pictures with me and her on them and she looks so happy on paper but in reality she appears unhappy a lot of the time.

The only disruptive thing in her life I can think of is that the house is getting knocked about a bit at the mo and we are all living in temporary rooms (not her bedroom though). No probs with school. This weekend DD and I stayed away at a B&B to have time together to see if this would help but it hasn't. She was lovely when we were away, didn't moan and was bright and happy but has reverted back within 5 mins of being home. Don't get me wrong she's not permanently miserable, but it is becoming very upsetting for me and I'm very worried about her. DH isn't helping really, he does tend to talk down to her when she's moaning or talking non stop and at the moment she's just annoying him.

Any advice?

have you asked why she thinks she doesnt see you enough?

do you work f/t? try setting aside a bit fo time each day that is your time with her for reading stories/talking to each other.

It sounds as though she's feeling very insecure and is needing you to reassure her that you love her. I would try giving her a little picture of your family so that she an carry it around with her. She's still small and she just wants to know that someone's thinking about her and where she fits in. The smallest thing can unsettle a child. She should start to feel better once things at home have calmed down and the house is back to normal. Try not to worry too much, just be there to give her comfort. Hormones will probably play a part in this aswell.

Thank you all. She always has been like this on and off but not for sometime and i've always thought she was insecure. I am SAHM and we always read stories to her at night and have big cuddles before bed. I think she thinks her little sister (3) gets in the way a bit. I love her so so much and will keep reiterating this to her.

Write her a little card telling her this and give her a picture. This should help.
