How long to give it before we throw in the towel?

DD is 26 months, showed all the signs of being ready, shows an interest in her potty and is quite bright. So we went cold turkey with nappies yesterday. So far we have had 8 wet knickers and 3 poos in the pants and only one small wee in the potty (more luck than judgement). So, is a day and half too soon to say "she isn't ready" or should I carry on for a bit longer.

(recognise this is similar to previous thread but didn't want to hijack!)

Does she show any idea that she's wet?

BabyDragon was similar - keen, grasped what was expected, had one wee in the potty and then utterly clueless. Gave up after, er, a day and a half!

yes, she doesn;t like the feeling at all. Thins morning she did it all over my toes and cried because she had weed all over my feet. It is like she jsut cannot connect that with the potty. We have had day and half now. Its pretty wearing!

Those 'signs' bear no relation, whatsoever, to the reality of potty training IME! DD1 was the same - but it just didn't click. We gave up almost as soon as we had started.

When we went back to it, somewhere around 2.9 I think, she got it almost immediately.

Throw the towel in!

hurrah, just had our first success. She is so pleased with herself. Just said "I won;t do a wee-wee in my knickers anymore mummy"

promptly follwed by one on the kitchen floor!

I think you are right foxy. She is not herself today and I don't think she is ready.

DS had LOTS of accidents on day 1, some on day 2 and 3 and by day 6 he was asking to go every single time himself.
2 weeks on and not one accident since!

Even if they are ready its a big new skill to learn. Give her 2 or 3 days at least I'd say.

I'll tell you what I did and see if it helps you decide...

Day 1 - stayed in all day. Potty in the lounge. Sat him on the potty every 15 mins for 5 mins or so. Let him eat sandwiches in the lounge, watch tv etc to keep him in there and to keep him sitting still when it was time to sit on the potty.
If he did a wee while he was on the potty did massive cheering and stickers etc.
If did a wee on the floor then just say 'never mind, we'll get it on the potty next time and get a sticker!'
No pants or trousers, just naked bottom half all day.

Day 2 - more of the same, with more wees on the potty than on the floor.

Day 3 - still stayed in all day but only sat him on the potty every 2 hours or so (I had worked out from previous couple of days that he wees about every 2 hours). He mostly managed to hold it in for the whole 2 hours each time and then did it straight away when I asked him to sit on the potty.

Day 4 - the same again, no accidents at all

Day 5 - Stopped reminding him every 2 hours. Said at beginning of day. 'If you need a wee then ask Mummy. Your potty is here. Ok?'
He had a few accidents.

Day 6 - Same again but he got the hang of going without me reminding him and started asking to go.

Since then we have been out and about and back to normal routine. Got a travel potty for when we are out. But I am confident that he will ask now every time he needs to go.

Hope that helps a little bit!

That helps loads, thank you. To be fair, looking at your routine over the first 3 days, I don't think I have given her and her potty enough attention . We have had people popping in and out for the last 2 days and it has been too distracting for her. I have realised if I am going down the cold turkey route I probably have to commit a bit more time to making sure we have very few distractions.

Thanks

BabyDragon was clueless to the point that DS1 (9) had to come and tell me she'd weed in his foot. [sigh]
