intolerant to wonderoos??

My ds is nearly 6 months old. Since he was 5 wks nappy rash has persisted in a mild form on and off. It hadn't been troublesome until about 5 weeks ago when it really flared up and was very inflammed, hot and obviously tender. It was predominately concentrated along the line of the elastic around the front of his legs. My dad is a GP and thought there was secondary infection with thrush so gave me some Daktacort cream (antifungal and steroid) to use which cleared it up incredibly quickly. A few days after that we went on a 3 week camping holiday so switched to disposables for that period and his legs were good. We returned home last week and within 24 hours of being back in his wonderoos his legs were red again and dry/flaky. I have switched to disposables twice more and then rechallenged him with wonderoos and in less than 12 hours his legs have flared up quite dramatically.
I have been using baby salve by Green people. He's breastfed (not weaned yet) and I change him around 6 times a day, more if I know he's dirty. I only use washable wipes (or cottonwool) and water. I do a cold rinse first and then use a very small amount of Ecover non-bio detergent (same for his clothes) to wash the nappies and nothing else. I released the poppers around the leg to make them less tight there and I give him plenty of nappy-free time at each nappy change but nothing seems to help.

I am quite upset as I really don't want to 'give up' on cloth nappies but don't want to fork out for a different kind if we are going to have the same problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks

Could well be an allergy to fleece - have you tried him on other non-fleece-lined cloth nappies? Sometimes they are fine with fleece clothing elsewhere but more sensitive on the bottom area. The areas where the elastic pushes the fleece against his leg are often affected the worse I'm told. My DD2 is very allergic to some paper liners so watch that one too - think that is more common that the fleece allergy.

sorry but had to chuckle at "rechallenged him with Wonderoos"

If you want to try a different type of cloth nappies it would be worth looking at www.realnappycampaign.com to see if you have a local agent who can loan you some different types to try.

I know where you are coming from - had some questions as to whether the Motherease One Sizes that I was using were the problem for my ds. In fact it seemed that he was just very sensitive and we had to use very thick barrier cream.

my baby cant wear fleece or bamboo so we have to steer clear of both. We use littlekiwi quick flip cotton terry nappies. 100%cotton so all natural fibres, and have not had a problem since.
We're in smalls at the moment and will definitely be back for the mediums when we need them. Funnily though, bubs can wear the fleece outer wraps
also at the rechalenging with the wonderoos.

organic cotton might help?

Could you contact any of the nappy distributors so you could trial a few?

ladies - thanks for your advice. i know- 'rechallenged' was meant to be tongue in cheek. still, it was an interesting if disappointing experiment!
