Oh dear.
My ds was a week old, I was changing his bum so hooked his legs up and everytime I wiped he carried on pooing, in the end I'd had his feet in the air for so long they'd turned black.
He was 13 days old when he was strapped in pushchair and I knocked it over in sainsburys.
He was 3 weeks old when I was taking him downstairs while in his mosses basket, and I dropped it.
Yesterday, I took my eyes off him for one minute (bit klonger) and e fell down step leading to kitchen.

So, don't worry, it happens to all of us

dustyteddy · 01/07/2008 21:06

Yes it happened to my ds about that age. Banged his head on way down, cue screaming and mothers guilt by the bucketload! He's fine now at 2.5 years. You are not alone !

TrinityRhino · 01/07/2008 21:08

gecko cosleeps and has fallen off the bed three times between the ages of 4 months and now (17 months)

I shouldn't imagine you will get anyone saying that their child did not do this.

In fact, if you do get someone saying this, feel free to mentally add a "yet" at the end of their sentence.

Morloth · 02/07/2008 09:50

Along with everyone else have totally had that happen and worse.

The one I feel baddest about was when he was about a month old and I cracked his head on a doorway as I walked through. Half asleep myself about to put him down after much crying etc etc - he had a whopping great bruise for so long! and of course the poor little thing woke up and we were both crying then...

sagacious · 02/07/2008 09:53

Stands in line with everyone else

Jjou · 02/07/2008 09:53

My DD did a forward roll off the couch at 5 1/2 months. She cried a little bit then went on with her day. However i still feel guilty 4 months on... Not helped by DP saying "At least DD has never fallen off the couch on my watch..." whenever we're having any discussions about childcare/rearing. Gah!

ummadam · 02/07/2008 09:54

Not realising he had had a growth spurt I banged my DS's head on the roof of the car while putting him into his car seat at 3m old... 2months later after another quicker than expected growth spurt his head once again was a bit higher than my brain thought it was... and I did it again!

EsmeWeatherwax · 02/07/2008 09:57

[Takes place in line.] Dd has done this several times. Is now 15 months and fine. She's a climber, so has reasonably frequent falls. So far only a few wee bruises to show for it. I think she's made of rubber.

Morloth · 02/07/2008 10:07

Nice to see the witches have arrived!

Oh god, the car! I don't know how many times I banged the kid against the car getting him in and out. Or even better smacked my own head whilst doing it.

They really are quite robust little creatures aren't they?

Tinkjon · 02/07/2008 14:07

DD did this at about the same age as yours - unusually high bed and hard wooden floor. Oops. Mummies are almost always far more upset than the babies

LOL at it being a milestone, Displacement!

It happened here today!!

Liz79 · 03/07/2008 21:18

Until last week we changed DDs nappies on a change mat on a chest of draws, which contains her clothes. Last week DH was changing her and turned to his side to drop nappy in bucket. Other hand on edge of top of draws. Feels DD brush this hand on her way down. Fortunatly caught her in free fall 1/3 of the way down. Caught one handed. We do it on the floor now, I'm glad it happened on his watch, I wouldn't of caught her but he feels soooooooooooo bad. I haven't injured her at all Well except for cutting her fingers whilst doing her nails and banging her head on the car seat handle. Nothing scary though. Feel bad about the fingers, made her cry a lot.

cyanarasamba · 03/07/2008 21:23

I think it's actually in the red book as a developmental milestone isn't it?

girlandboy · 03/07/2008 21:28

When ds was 4 days old I dropped him!! I tripped up the last stair and he shot out of my arms and rolled across the bedroom floor.

Fortunately he seemed quite rubbery and in fact he didn't even wake up. But I felt terrible. "I'VE DROPPED THE BABY, I'VE DROPPED THE BABY" is how I think it went.

bluenosesaint · 03/07/2008 21:32

This hasn't happend (yet ) to any of my dd's, BUT, i have bumped their heads into walls, doors and the car door (not all at once you understand), the older two have both fell downstairs as toddlers at least once each and both have had more than their fair share of bangs to the mouth and head falling off slides and bouncing on the bed

You are not alone - your ds will be fine ...theres more to come

Hope you're ok

Sufi · 03/07/2008 21:37

DS1 did a forward roll off a sofa in the M&S cafe, landed on his back, HOWLED for a few heart-stopping seconds, then got distracted by the bright lights above his head and started giggling at them. Worst thing was, I was on my own, and lots of old biddies eating cream buns started tutting at me. Feckers never asked if he was OK though... I still feel like a Very Bad Mother.
