Is this a ridiculous idea - DD5 and football

DD (5yo) kept hearing about the football during the world cup and wanting to watch it (due to the match times she only really watched the highlights). At the time she did ask when she could go to a proper match.

She's just asked about it again and I showed her the highlights from the Lionesses game against Greece the other day. Which she really enjoyed....

Now, here's the thing. The Lionesses are playing at Wembley on 5th December and I'm so tempted to see if she wants to go. Obviously this depends on prices... but is this is ridiculous idea? Is she too young? I have lovely memories of going to games with my dad (although we didn't start going until I was 10/11). And I'm torn between 'it'll be great' and 'sounds lovely but terrible idea'

DS started going to watch our PL team at 5. He got a bit bored but it was a very boring match in fairness. We live in London so he was very used to crowds and noise from going to other very crowded things.

England mens do family sections where it’s £25 for an adult and £12.50 for kids. I’m sure the women would be similar.

You know more than us how she would cope with the crowds and tube at Wembley.

Thanks all - the queue to get on the tube is another concern, as I suspect she'll be tired. We're only about 30 minutes from Wembley on the tube, and further west so hopefully the train itself won't be totally rammed.

Go to a smaller game with fewer people and a smaller stadium. A Wembley match will be too much. You risk her getting scared or terribly tired and upset and she'll just hate it going forward.

I went to a match at my local stadium about 15 years ago just to experience it. I was amazed at the noise. I expect it's far louder at a large stadium like Wembley. I was also shocked at the swearing and racist language being hurled at the players which the stewards were ignoring. The worst offender near us was a boy about 12 years old and his parents were laughing. Hopefully, the stadiums have a zero tolerance approach these days. I still think it would be too noisy and overwhelming for a 5 year old

I've bitten the bullet and got tickets, I was umming and ahhing, but DH talked me into it when I saw the cheapest ones came to £20 for the both of us (DH has no interest in football so will stay at home with our 1yo) - if she hates it and wants to leave at half time we will.

i hope you both enjoy! And easy to leave early if needs be.
May be worth getting some ear defenders.

we see a lot of young children wearing them at matches

We took the children to their first game when DC1 was 6 and DC2 was 4. And as we wanted to avoid the crowds, we got there an hour before kick off 🤦‍♀️I was heavily armed with snacks, sticker books & that sort of thing and, whilst the snacks were demolished, none of the activities were touched. Not even during the hour before it all started as the DC just found watching the watering, the various staff, the warm up and everything fascinating. They loved the game too. Go for it! Tickets can be quite cheap in the family section so, if your DD hates it, leave at half time.
