I came across this article online and it made me think about some of the recurring 'big questions' that come up on mumsnet. It's a long and very substantial piece but is very readable I think. I am always looking for interesting things to read about mothering, family etc but it's not often that you find something that isn't just speaking from personal experience.

She raises some very interesting questions about women's (and men's) position in the family, why the division of labour between mothers and fathers continues to be a bone of contention, why family life and parenting has become such a hot political issue and whether being a parent drives people crazy!

I would be really interested to know what anyone else thinks.

No, I didn't write it, just thought it might be of interest to some people, as quite often on the threads, the 'big questions' lurk beneath the surface.

Thanks Wagwan for sorting out the link.

I quite like Spiked articles and Jenny Bristow. I think the general issue is that parenting has come to be seen as a profession ( that needs state regulation and direction) and that it is no longer seen as a normal or private part of the human experience. Would read more if I wasn't getting tea ready !
