Toddler toys for 3 year old birthday that are annoying.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I actually like kinetic sand though, it keeps my kids occupied like a magic spell, and as long as they keep it to the dining table, cleanup is manageable

Swiss Army Knife and some heroin

Make sure to give the branded stuff, though, as lots of the non branded products have been recalled due to safety risks. The Kinetic Sand label stuff is ok.

This is good to know! I've only ever been given it rather than giving it to others as a gift because I'm afraid of making myself unpopular haha. But my kids love it.

I think the perfect gift ticks the following boxes:

The kids want to play with it (obviously)
The kids can play with it without adult help
It does not frustrate or enrage them
It does not make siblings bicker
It does not make a noise
It does not make a mess.

Kinetic sand ticks 5 of the 6 boxes!

I think only the toy kitchen ticks all the boxes. Edit - and bath crayons. Whoever invented bath crayons deserves the Nobel peace prize

John Lewis used to do a kids accordion, not sure if they still do. My sister bought one for my DC.

Failing that, anything by VTech!

I’ll add a baby shark bath toy (it has the tune). I bought 2 one for my house and one for parents house for when nephews/grandkids stayed over. The bloody things would go off at random when out of the bath in various places eg bath box, laundry cupboard. Mine has now been binned. Parents gave theirs to their son (with kids). Because a tuneful shark suddenly going off when you’re showering is the last thing you want.

It is the little silver sensor you have tk immaculately dry. I've turned to robo fish for peace and quiet!

My DM bought my dc1 some Vtech toys in French. (She is a fluent speaker, I just have a GCSE ie can't speak more than two words. But my dm will try again with my dc.)

This was in lockdown so we were stuck at home quite a bit. Moi, je suis Augustin, le quad-tout-terrain! Vrm vrm! I found it recently while decluttering and the jingle made me literally shudder. If there's anything worse than Vtech, it's foreign language Vtech. I'm still not sure what the pink goat is actually saying

Peppa Pig Sing and Learn microphone. That thing is LOUD.

Parents neighbours gave my parents a keyboard with microphone and a “club” tune as well as other tunes. My nephews love it but their parents say “it can live at grandparents house” whenever they beg to take it home.

DS1 had a Bob the Builder toy I think it had a steering wheel on it and buttons you could press. If the wrong one was pressed Bob said ‘That’s not RIGHT’. It’s been 20 years and I can still hear that voice in my head. ‘That’s not RIIIGHHHTT’

GreenMeeple · 06/10/2026 17:58

Ballpit! great when there 1 but by 3 my DS loved nothing more than to topped it over, see the balls go everywhere and hide under it and play turtle. I was constantly tidying up and finding random balls everywhere.

Any kind of musical toy or toy musical instrument. Drums, kazoo, triangle tin whistle, recorder. Those random books with buttons that place a sound or tune to go with part of the story.

It’s a shame they are too young for Bop It. That bloody thing still haunts me.

I bought my little cousin a pull along duck that quacked constantly. She loved it and was obsessed with it. Tee hee.
