Cash's tapes sewn onto anything fabric - except socks (cheap & expendable) and undies (don't come off at school)
Sticky labels on everything else - book bag, shoes, plimsolls, lunch bag.

As a classroom assistant I urge(no beg) you to label EVERYTHING ! when you have a class of 30 getting change for PE it's a nightmare trying to get the right clothes to the right person. The pens are quick and easy, and the iron on labels are a good idea especially if you iron them onto the back of garments,to help the little ones know the back and front of clothes.

Totally, totally, totally agree with bruces

every single thing needs to be labelled

since ds has been camping, we have random plastic dishes with his name on it. some teatowels with his name sewn on, and some towels too.
half his t shirts and jeans are also labelled. althought for some reason, his tie isnt labelled anymore????
i would suggest sew on tapes AND writing in biro. that way they cant rip the sewn on name off and pretend it isnt their younger brothers as they have lost their own!

dc1firstname surname dc2firstname.

you can trim off th ebit you dont need. saves.
however, it is worthwhile getting a hundred of each child as you will need them for the next ten years or so.

the only thing i never labelle d are socks. labelled underwear for camping an d residential trips.

seeker · 30/06/2008 23:15

Dc1 - everything lovingly labelled with sewn on Cash's name tapes with her full name in red italic script. And I mean everything - including all socks, tights and other underwear.

Dc2 - his first name scribbled on the label of his sweatshirt in biro as he goes out the door.

iron on ones for dd-and NONE of the labels have ever come off(bought them from The White Company)

Two web sites for you - My Name Labels and Labels 4 Kids. Sorry I can't do the links as I can't remember the exact web addresses. Try Google.

Ordered one lot of labels when ds was in nursery. What a pain. After that, I bought one of those mini Sharpie brand pens that goes on a keychain and carry it everywhere with me. All items that could possible be removed in any possible scenario are marked with name on label. Don't forget shoes....At 6 ds didn't recognize his own brand new (1 week old) shoes after an ice skating trip, and they would have been left behind if they hadn't been the last ones on the shelf and the teacher had the sense to know that ds would be likely to not recognize his own shoes.

Im another one like seeker,
dd1 and maybe ds1 got lovely nametapes sewn on everyhing,I remember feeling quite emotional when the little pack with her name on arrived in the post PFB moment .
By the time ddd3 went to school it was a quick scibble as she was getting dressed, and only on sweatshirt and coat.

I agree with Bruces - as a teacher I have been utterly AMAZED this year at the amount of school clothes that have no labels on! Bit(!) tricky to help the children keep track of their clothes when they all look the same and aren't named. I bet you can imagine the expression on my face when parents complain that items have been lost! (Seriously - out of a class of 24 only 8 had names in their sweatshirts let alone anything else!)
