My lovely DS has, over the last few weeks decided having his nappy changed isn't for him. It is a real struggle and he often ends up banging his head or hurting some other part trying to get away from us. He is 10months and crawling. I often feel like i am hurting him by trying to keep him still. Any suggestions? I had thought of trying pull ups but my Sister in law says they are only for babies who are walking and won't fit properly. Help!

Keep some toys near the changin mat that are never permitted anywhere else or at any other time and give them to him one at a time. Talk and sing to him if necessary to get through the change. Once he is clean don't worry about keeping him on his back to put the nappy on, you can put it on him backwards while he is on hands and knees. All of mine have gone through phases when they tended to wear their nappies backwards!

My DS did this. You will have to try and distract with something really interesting. I might be wrong, but I'm sure you get different size pull ups - worth a try! Anything for an easier life

It seems to be a stage they all go through - and it's exhausting and frustrating isn't it?

Iused to have 2 tactics depending upon the time pressure
If I had to get ds ready for a certain time then I would just use force and tone of voice

If there was plenty of time then I would make it into a game and let him roll around for a bit before tackling it again

It does pass

Not sure about pull ups - you could at least try them to see if them make things easier

I sing to mine - it mesmerises her! i obviously have an amazing singing voice.

We got a mat with a harness on it from Boots.

I second the sticker idea - a really strong shiny one works best. Drives'em crazy trying to get it off, make sure to ONLY use it at nappy time though.

No advice other than a firm grip and it will pass. My LO did the same thing. Had a few nasty, nasty rolling in pooh incidences.

Am 39 weeks pregnant and I keep rememberring all the things I had blocked out from last time. Ho hum. All to come again.

hate to be bearer of bad news but don't count on it passing. It didn't with either of mine. Started at 10 months and carried on until potty training. Neither of mine could be distracted ever (and this is in all situations!). They are clearly very single minded!.. I found changing sitting on the floor and sort of wedging with legs helped . I contemplated mat with harness but didn't buy as felt couldn't justify another baby purchase. In hindsight I was stupid not too!

I think all dcs go through this - you just need to go with brute force (within reason and get adept at nappy changing as quickly as possible

Distraction is the only thing that works - I used to give ds my watch to play with as he was never usually allowed to have it - turned into a treat but only lasted for a couple of days until the novelty wore off - another one I used was Mr Men books - for a few days he would happily tear the pages out for as long as it took to change him
