This normally takes about an hour, and includes about 3 total melt-downs.

Does anyone else have this problem with sons v home-work sheets?

Yup, but it's got easier over the years.

The only way I have found to deal with it is to say either you do it here where I can help you, or you go to your room and do it on your own.

He gets one more chance to apply himself and then its off to the room . The first few times he'd end up in his room, probably with both of us crying but it gave us both a chance to calm down and usually when I went up to check, he'd be getting on with it.

Now (he's just finishing yr2) we usually read the sheet together, then he will do it at the dining table while I'm in the kitchen, so I'm there if he needs me, but not in his face. I think to begin with, I was too concerned that the quality of his homework reflected on my ability as a parent, so I was a bit too controlling. Now I accept that it's his work and if he's happy with the standard he's produced that's OK.
