Would I be wrong to cut off my son's paternal family?

My son is nearly 3 his dad has not seen him for nearly 2 years now for many reasons including being abusive to me, drug addiction, being mentally unstable. Despite me trying to help them build a bond in the beginning it was eventually advised from a mediator to arrange for the contact centre. To which he has point blank refused all this time. This isn't the problem as im quite glad he's stayed out of my sons life even though he still trys to get to me sometimes. His mother has also not bothered to make effort for over 2 years, however his sister and his dad have seen our son a handful of times and make arrangements once every few months despite living round the corner. I have never stopped any of his family seeing our son they have just chose to make little effort. My question is would I be in the wrong to just cut the whole family off completely. I feel like none of them really care, and worry it may do more damage the older my son gets ?

I wouldn't cut them off no but I would leave it to them to contact you for seeing the child.

Agree with pp. Cutting them off makes you the problem and could potentially affect your relationship with your son later.

Equally there is no need or obligation to go out of your way or invest your emotional energy in this. Think of it as distant relatives who when they are around great if not no big deal.

Agree with above. Cutting off could make your DS blame you for the lack of relationships later. Think of them as distant relatives and don't bend over backwards for them.

You don’t need to cut them off unless they are a safeguarding risk. Seeing family every few months is perfectly fine. My dc only see MIL about every other month (she also lives reasonably close). I don’t go out of my way to facilitate it, but when she and Dh want to organise something and we are free, we make time. I only probably saw my dad’s side of the family 2-3 times a year. I wasn’t close to them, but it wasn’t damaging to see them either.

I wouldn’t chase them or send them information or photos unprompted, but unless they pose a risk, I’d have them over for tea and biscuits every few months when they get in touch. That’s fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't cut them off, they are your son's family. He may be grateful to have them in his life in the future.

Why would you cut his aunty and grandfather off when they do make arrangements to see him, even though it is only every few months? Maybe they don’t want to make more regular contact because they don’t want to impose. I’m not sure what you want from those two .
