Anyone starting AA100 in Feb 09?

Just wondering if anyone had signed up for the OU course AA100 "The arts past and present" starting in Feb 09? It would be really great to find another mumsnetter on the course to help each other through it all! I have one DD aged 2 and I'm still not quite sure how I'm going to fit the study in with working part time as well, but I'm very determined!

Hi, just found your message and had to say - yay - someone else enrolled on the same course as me! I've just started A177 Shakespeare to get back into the studying frame of mind before the serious 60-pointers begin next year. Are you an OU newbie too?
Lots of luck!!!

Hi NiceCupofTea
I'm Shoegazer, I just changed my name recently

Very glad to find someone on the same course as me too! I have just started A172 Essays for the same reasons as you. I am indeed an OU newbie, but loving it already! I'm aiming for a degree in English Lit what about you?

Yanda · 30/10/2008 02:43

Just seen your other message further down the threads, you are doing exactly what I want to do too! I'm hoping to go on to a PGCE too, well tentatively anyway, I'm not sure I know what I am getting myself into!?

Good luck to you too and it would be lovely if we could keep in touch (in a totally non stalkerish way just surprised to find someone so similar!) I think I'm going to need all the help I can get!

This is weird... I considered doing A172 to prepare for AA100 (don't know why writing essays should concern me so much - I used to write for a living!) You can give me lots of advice on essays and I'll tell you all about iambic pentameters (de-dum de-dum de-dum, etc). Deal?

Yanda · 31/10/2008 18:28

Deal! I considered your Shakespeare one too, lol. I think I might pick your brains about more than iambic pentameters if you used to write for a living, I'm a psychiatric nurse so this is a complete change of direction for me and the last Shakespeare I did was at school.

How are you finding the whole OU system? A172 seems to pretty idiot proof to follow, its all laid out for you and planned really. I just hope AA100 is the same or I'm in for a shock. First class is abit of a pain sometimes though, it just doesn't seem to flow. They need a mumsnet system so I find it easier to follow the messages.

NiceCupOfTea · 31/10/2008 22:10

A177 seems pretty straightforward too - it's all there in the study guide, and the books included are very good. I last studied Shakespeare at school, too, but this is my first look at a comedy (The Taming of the Shrew). It's great getting back into dissecting a play and it's making me feel almost intelligent again. What are you planning after AA100? I fancy A210 Approaching Literature starting next October. As for First Class, hmmm, could be better.

Yanda · 01/11/2008 17:51

I'm planning on A210 in October too, and then after that I'm undecided on whether to follow the creative writing path and then 20th Century texts and then Shakespeare at Level 3 or I might look at some English Language courses so that I have a wider grounding for a PGCE. I might need to do A177 before I attempt Level 3 Shakespeare so I will see how it goes.

How old are your children/child? I have a 2 year old and I'm finding it easier than I thought to study around her and my job. I also understand completely what mean about almost feeling intelligent again. I feel like I have come out of 2 years of baby brain

NiceCupOfTea · 01/11/2008 18:05

Tee hee - I've got 11 years of brain-rot from DS1, then! Feels like I argue for a living sometimes (grr, smartypants pre-teen), plus ds2 is 7 going on 11 and WON'T SHUT UP. EVER. All I can hear now is both of them yelling 'bring on the wall!!!' ARGH! Shakespeare is so civilised compared to my pair of oiks...

Yanda · 02/11/2008 18:00

Lol, you have just shattered my illusion that it all gets better after the terrible twos! I was planning to study abit tonight, but then I got thrown up on and now have a poorly DD sitting next to me watching tikkabilla. Sigh.

When is your first TMA due?

NiceCupOfTea · 03/11/2008 18:02

shall we take this chat off board?

Yanda · 03/11/2008 18:06

Sure, how do we do that? I can't CAT! I'm too tight to spend the fiver

NiceCupOfTea · 03/11/2008 18:23

Er, so am i!!!!

Yanda · 03/11/2008 21:48
