Was this lad unusual or do my kids need further training?

I'm trying to work out whether a lad I know is unusual (in a good way) or whether mine are just rude lol

Basically we had DS's friend over for tea last night and I cannot get over how sweet, polite, friendly and well behaved he was...a total contrast to the type of boys DS usually brings home!

We were around Tesco and DS picked up a chocolate bar and the lad said to him "Put that down mate, wait until your mum has finished shopping at least...don't jump to conclusions" DS just looked embarrassed and put the chocolate back...I wanted to hug the little sweetie there and then! lol

And then later I asked DS to run upstairs and get me some batteries, the lad said "I'll do it", ran upstairs, came down with the batteries and handed them to me...I said "Thank You" and he said "You're very welcome"

And then when he went home he hugged DS, and then shook my hand and thanked me for having him over....this lad is only 8.

I'm wondering if his parents would be willing to do a swap?

So, is he what a normal 8 year old should be like? are my kids and their usual friends just rude and slightly feral? lol

I don't know the kid, but I already don't like him!

misdee · 27/06/2008 19:54

oh goodness can i have him?

well my DS1 (will be 7 in September) is quite like that - but I do think they are the exception rather than the rule at that age.

Oh but - and home he can be quite frequently absolutely awful to the point of having major sulks/tantrums when he doesn't get his own way

see......MY kiddies do this at other peoples houses (so the other people say....maybe my kiddies bribe them), yet I do not see it.

I would swap the kiddies that I have at home for the kiddies that go to other peoples houses!

but, that lad sounds lovely......he can come to me anytime!

apparently my two are very kind and helpful elsewhere,so im told but at home...HMMMM!!!!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 27/06/2008 19:58

Oh this is really the kevin an perry situation I bet

"yes mrs patterson, thank you mrs patterson" and then at home complete and utter gits

You see it in teens to a greater extent, but it does happen at 8 imvho

Next door's teenage twins are exactly the same - they are the most charming, delightful, polite girls you could possibly imagine, always ready to help with dd, take messages etc etc.
BUT - I can hear through the walls that they're not like that when they're at home with Mum .

Beansmum, you would like him...he's got the kind of face that you can't help but like lol.

But yes, you're all probably right, people always tell me DS has been "absolutely perfect", he's apparantly "so sweet and well behaved" and he can "come over anytime"

At home he IS Kevin the teenager lol.
