Our daughter was 3 in May and we started potty training 6 weeks ago. It's not gone well and looking for some tips. Initially at both home and nursery she rejected the potty, at home she became very anxious about peeing at all and would try to hold it in until she was in agony. We were worried we had put too much pressure on so we became more relaxed, inviting her to use the potty but she would generally pee in her pants while sitting at the dining table.
At nursery they had more success within a couple of weeks and she will now pee on her potty there and has very few accidents, although they still have to encourage her to do so.
The last two weekends at home we tried to be a bit firmer with her about using her potty given she was getting into a routine of peeing herself and causing us to have to clean up. She has been willing to sit on the potty but only when she does not need to go. If she does need to go, she will reluctantly sit on the potty if bribed e.g. a treat or a video but will absolutely refuse to pee in it even if desperate.
She no longer pees on her dinner table chair and tries to hold it until she goes in a nappy for her lunchtime nap or until her bath before bed. Yesterday evening she was lying on the floor because she was uncomfortable and when we asked if she would like to pee on the garden floor she said yes and proactively took off her pants to do so.
So there is some progress here but we're totally out of ideas in terms of how to get her to actually "release" on the potty at home, there seems to be a pretty severe mental block there. We're trying not to pressure her but obviously keen for this period to end ASAP!
Has anyone had a similar experience or got any advice on how we might be able to clear the final hurdle? She's more than conscious of when she needs to pee/poo, just won't do it in the potty at home!
