Just curious, how old were your children when they...

  1. Went to sleep independently
  2. Stayed in their bed all night
  3. Got pocket money
OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My eldest DD has a new baby now 3 months and she is a dream! Stays in her own bed and wakes one time in the night. Unlike her mother who used to sleep in our bed until 11 or 12!

Smallestshadow · 16/08/2026 14:41
  1. 6 months & 4
  2. 6 months & 4
  3. Youngest is 10 & doesn’t get it yet. Think my eldest was about 12/13.
MurielTheTerrible · 16/08/2026 14:43
  1. 6 weeks
  2. 6 weeks
  3. 7 years
TheOtterly · 16/08/2026 14:43
  1. Went to sleep independently - 4/5
  2. Stayed in their bed all night - 5 and 10
  3. Got pocket money - 10/11
Marroon · 16/08/2026 14:46
  1. Age 2 for both
  2. A similar age but less guaranteed than the independent bedtime
  3. No pocket money yet and I can’t see it happening any time soon. Probably end of primary maybe? There isn’t really the same opportunity for children to buy cheap sweets and little toys from the newsagents that there would have been in the 90s. Plus I can’t be bothered with taking money out, to break a note in order to give pocket money arbitrarily.
TheyGrewUp · 16/08/2026 14:50
  1. 5/6 for independent sleeping because they had stories from the very beginning
  1. 1 Always, the other until about 5.
  1. 4 or 5. Tiny amounts for cheap ELC toys, pokemo/football cards, bits of stationery. 40p at 4, 50p at 5, etc.
baddayformeredith · 16/08/2026 14:56

2 kids;
1 - from birth
2 - from birth
3 - teenagers but mainly just transfer money if they need it. Really missed the boat on this and should have started earlier, probably around 6 or 7 when they start learning about money in school

Superscientist · 16/08/2026 14:57

Eldest-
5y3m
4y10m
2-3y

Second one is only 11m but already can sleep through the night.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/08/2026 15:18

8 weeks, 8 weeks, 3 (50p a week towards a wooden helicopter he really wanted, in return for “helping to feed the cat”)).

3, 5, 5

mondaytosunday · 16/08/2026 15:40

What do you mean by ‘independently’? Like got themselves up the stairs, into pjs and teeth brushed? Or do you mean just went to sleep without someone with them?
If former , 6, though I’d be reading a book before tucking them in; if latter then a few days old.
From birth. Only time they got out was if ill - which was pretty uncommon. Maybe a nightmare once or twice.
Pocket money - 8/9? Though I’d often forget!

DemonsandMosquitoes · 16/08/2026 15:51
  1. Three and four months
  2. Transferred to bed from cot at 20 months and neither ever climbed out. Never ever brought into our bed as babies.
  3. We’ve always paid into savings regularly for them. Never really had ‘pocket money’.

Thanks everyone!
