Ten-month-old refusing dummy after hand, foot and mouth, now struggling to sleep

10 month old had hand foot and mouth last week and as a result couldn't take his dummy and now doesn't want it..... fantastic we thought!......except we now realise he cannot physically get to sleep without it 😫 past 4 nights have been horrendous and here we are again after half ten at night with a very tired upset baby.

Any advice? Even on how to get him to take the dummy again!! I'm tempted to dip it in jam at this point so he sucks it

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Good grief! Don’t give him sugar! I’d just put up with it. He will sleep in the end. Take him out in the car. That usually works. Or give him a bottle.

How did he get to sleep without it when he had the hand, foot and mouth?
Are you sure it is not the heat?
As PP said can you take them out for a drive, or even a walk in the pram around the block.

Oh i was joking about the jam....although at this stage its tempting

He didn't unless he had calpol, nurofen, difflam and anbesol - its been a rough week!!

I’d take the opportunity to get rid of it now or you’ll have to go through this again soon anyway. But I expect you are exhausted if he’s not been sleeping. Can someone help you out so you can catch up on some sleep?

I would try laying with him, it’s easier to wean off that rather than rocking.

Do you cosleep or separate rooms? I did pick up put down with mine so they weren’t distressed or crying. It’s going to take time as he must feel so rough!
