Home alone

Just wondering if you would leave a 14 year old and 11 year old home alone for 3 or 4 hours? One parent works shifts and the other parent goes out and leaves the children.

Yes. They are both presumably at secondary school and you don't mention anything that might make it hard for them to take care of themselves. If it is the first time, I'd probably provide food before I left to avoid the temptation to cook. But they should be able to follow basic instructions like "don't go out", "don't answer the door up strangers" etc.

Yes.

Yes, my 11 year old has been spending between 1-2 hours on her own over the holidays. I know she would be fine for longer but she gets a bit bored. With an older sibling I'd happily leave her on her own longer. She went out to a local shop while I was out once, after checking with me. Good test of whether she is confident coming and going ready for when she starts secondary school. I would absolutely leave meals for an 11 year old though.

Yes of course, unless there was significant additional needs or something else going on you’re not mentioning?

Thanks for the replies. I had mixed thoughts but seems like the consensus is its ok. Younger child starts secondary school next month.
