Hello. my 6month old DD hurt herself today, about half hour to an hour ago. She was playing with a toy, when she sort of fell forward and the toy went up in the bit between her gums and her cheek and it got wedged there. She screamed and was stuck until I ran over to her and got it out. She npw crys if I touch that side of her mouth.

Is this enough to try and get a last min doctors appointment? Thats if they are even oppen?

If yes, but they are closed...then what?

Calpol for the pain and lots of cuddles.

Twelvelegs · 26/06/2008 16:59

Whip her to the A&E, IMO. Or call NHS direct, did she bleed?

If not bleeding and she has stopped crying/no other symptoms and fed since.. I would not bother taking her. Obviously, if anything changed and you were worried then consider getting a professional opinion.

It was plastic and long and thin. So the sort of thing that would bruise, rather than cut her iyswim. She was in her baby walker, with toys in the litte tray, and she sort of wedged the toy between her gum and the tray.

I have given a cold teething toy from the fridge and that seems to be helping.

She is a bit wingy but thats about it. I just dont want it to get late, when minor injuries will be closed and she will be tired etc and then realise she needs to go.

hellogoodbye - i think she will be fine - I'd see how she goes tonight - and if still uncertain go tomorrow to the docs. Not sure there's much they can/will do but I wouldn't say it's an emergency personally. Nasty though - poor little thing!

If she did not actual puncture the skin, unlikely to cause any problems needing treatment like an infection/have left a piece of the toy broken off in the gum that needs removing and wound cleaning etc. Honestly, although I am no medical expert, I would give a little calpol to ease the soreness and possible bruising and maybe cold things to suck on. I am sure she will be fine and is unlikely to deteriorate overnight from what you have told us. Not sure that there is anything other than give mild pain relief if she is upset and sore that they could/would do if you took her to A and E.

Twelvelegs · 26/06/2008 17:22

No blood, no infection likely and so I'd calpol and feed for comfort.

hellogoodbye · 26/06/2008 17:30

Ok great. feel a bit reasurred now! Always need to ask! Will leaver her and see ho she goes

Hi - hope you got a good nights sleep last night and everything has settled down now hellogoodbye

hellogoodbye · 27/06/2008 22:04

Hi. Yer everything is fine, Was expecting a bruise on her cheek, but nothing. But if she takes after me...I never bruise.

Think I just panicked as it looked so painful and was an unusual accident so hadnt delt with it before
