Day one of potty training - holding it in?

DD has been in pants since 9am, still nothing - no accidents, and nothing in potty.
Twice she's told me a wee was coming, once I've seen the 'poo face'!
Holding it in? Just made her a huge smoothie in the hope I'll fill her bladder to bursting.
Worried about UTIs

Ds1 did exact same thing. Went from 8am til 6pm before he had a wee!! if she doesn't have one soon i'd give her loads to drink, sit with her on loo, distract her with something and hope it happens naturally. If not she'll do it in nappy at bedtime. If no success she may have to go back to nappies as she may not be quite ready.

Still nothing. Tried lots of distraction and may have read every book in the house now! Also tried pouring warm water over her into the potty. Very entertained by it, and doesn't seem stressed, which is something!

ive given up potty training dd!!! she weed every 20 mins, and would not ever stay on the potty.

hairtwiddler · 26/06/2008 14:35

Well I have the opposite problem it seems. She's been on the potty every 20min for at least 10mins at a time! Still nothing.

I'd only get concerned if nothing by tonight tbh. But i only say that as she's exactly like my ds1. I wouldn't let her go more than that though, check nappy once its on just to make sure she's had wee.

hairtwiddler · 26/06/2008 15:53

She's had a small accident, so a bit relieved, even though it was on the kitchen floor not the potty! Not a huge amount though, so there's still plenty in there! Just sat on the potty for half an hour, and nothing.
Not too bad for day one though I suppose.

From day 2 onwards ds went absolutely fine! Yours could be the same. Out of my 4 he's the only 1 who did this, the others all used the toilet from day 1.

frazzledbutcalm · 26/06/2008 15:57

I think she needs reassurance about going to the toilet/potty though.

hairtwiddler · 26/06/2008 16:03

She's not stressed at all, which I'm relieved about as she's an anxious wee thing. Really liked watching me pour water in the potty and talking about how the wee would make the same noise.
We'll see! Thanks for posting.

She's in bed now, pull up on, and I'm worn out. I had to pop out to get all the jobs done I would have done during the day if I hadn't been confined to the house.

So, day 1 - no pees in potty, three accidents. Plenty of willingness, have read every long story in the house at least twice and watched four episodes of Something Special - she so loves Mr Tumble!

Anyone else on day one today?

My daughter (2yrs 10mths) happily wears pants and sits on the potty when I prompt her but will not wee or poo. She can hold herself in from morning til night and then complains that her tummy's hurting her. She says she doesn't know how to wee but knows that she'll be able to do it once I put a nappy on her! Worried that I may be doing more harm than good in trying to train her now although she's supposed to be starting school in 2 mths time and they won't take her unless she's out of nappies.
