Child order

Hi, so myself and my sons father went to court to get contact on a court order, he agreed with every Wednesday to see him for a couple of hours and every other weekend for a full weekend but he keeps swapping and changing the Wednesday. It’s upsetting my 5 year old son as he looks forward to Wednesdays. His dad said he’s got work (self employed) which I understand but he agreed in court for the Wednesdays. He said the customers are more important than seeing his son for a couple of hours. Any idea what I can do about this as it’s starting to massively frustrate me.

How shit.

There's nothing you can do op. Which is doubly shit.

You can stop swapping Wednesdays for other days, if that's what he's doing - the court order says you have to make him available on Wednesdays but you don't have to facilitate swaps.

Make sure your DC is aware that it's dad's decision not to see him at these times, not yours.

My ex used to drop weekend visits whilst I was on the school run with their bags packed in the boot. In the end I stopped making a fuss that it was dad's weekend, you need to downplay dad's day and make sure you have something fun in for tea. Eventually if dad does call it'll be a nice surprise rather than a disappointment every week.

I hear you!

It’s so frustrating isn’t it! I guarantee before every Wednesday he will ring and say I’ve got a job on so I can’t do it and he’ll swap it for another day, which I don’t mind if it’s an emergency, but he seems to be doing it every week at the minute!

Stop letting him mess you and your child around. Your child is available to him on Wednesdays. If that doesn't work at all for him, and you can accommodate another day, you can both agree to that. But letting him change things each week gives no stability for a child and you can't plan any child free things for you.
