He is 3 and I am meant to be taking him for a visit very soon. I am in two minds about when to do it. I know if I take him soon he will want to start going regularly and I am not sure I am ready. When he does initially start it will be for 2 mornings only. I am not sure I will be ready in Sept tbh but that is when he will start. Does a few weeks really matter or do I just say he can't go until then and from his point of view not understand why?

He isn't even my PFB.

Why cant you take him for a visit and induction process in September - if you take him now he will have forgotten all about it when he starts and you will have to do it all over again .

I dont see the point of a visit now - 10 -12 weeks before he starts .

I had visit at my DS's pre school yesterday. He is 2.10 and will start in Sept. Meeting yesterday was to see class room, meet staff, ask questions etc. It was more for me really! They gave me an afternoon date in early sept to bring him in for a 1 hr session and for me to stay with him. Then he starts officially on 25th Sept. He will have just turned 3 then.

I bit the bullet and went in today. He loved it so after a while I left him and he stayed on his own. My other two children went there so it wasn't like leaving him with people I didn't know, or seeing the place for the first time. They had suggested a visit before the end of term and I agreed. He is going again tomorrow and has officially been signed up for 2 mornings a week until the end of term. He said he had fun. His Dad doesn't even know he stayed yet as I can't get hold of him!

He went for a full session today (9.15-11.45) and loved it! He made a butterfly and did some colouring and cutting. He ate his snack sat next to a friend and was really tired when he got home. I am still a bit wobbly about it but I just see how happy he is and that is all that matters.

Awwww itati, that's lovely. Simpson was right, the pre-visit is often for the parent's benefit, so he/she will be reassured by the set up and procedures and be able to chat about it to the child in the intervening gap, in this case quite a few weeks.

Hope you are suitably reassured now
