How much does the tooth fairy leave for a first tooth?

My 5yo had their first tooth fall out (and lost it) at school today! They already have 2 adult 'shark teeth' but this is the first milk tooth to wobble and fall out.

What's the going rate for the tooth fairy for you? 50p? £1? More for the first one? Less for a lost one? Help!

As long as your child doesn’t ask around because mine did and it cost me a fiver for the first tooth. Only £1 for all subsequent teeth though.

LetitGoDLP · 09/07/2026 16:16

£2 for first and £1 thereafter

dontforgetme · 09/07/2026 16:17

We did £2.

Same here. It seems the standard around here from what I've heard.

Fridaysgirl17 · 09/07/2026 16:19

We did €10 (I will preface this by saying grandad did give half of that) & we do €2 for every other tooth

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 09/07/2026 16:20

We did £5 for the first tooth!

After that we lost all track and gave £1 or £2, depending on what we had on us at the time.

Evolutionarygoals · 09/07/2026 16:31

Our tooth fairy thought DD was exaggerating and that she would have more time to prepare. DD ended up with £5 😬 It's been £2 since.

None of the friends have lost any teeth! We are setting the benchmark apparently so no pressure 😂

A shiny £2 coin if you have one or settle for a shiny £1 if that's all you've got. Please, for heavens sake, don't introduce paper/plastic money to the scenario.

lockdownlady871 · 09/07/2026 19:09

50p!

50p!

I got 50p when I was a child. I think £1-£2 is quite fair in 2026 given how much everything else has gone up.

discodoggy · 09/07/2026 20:01

€2 as we couldn’t find a £2 coin

ShortColdandGrey · 09/07/2026 20:36

£2

We did this too, as did a number of other parents when I canvassed opinion.

WanderlustMom · 09/07/2026 20:48

£10 because I was unprepared and it was the only money I had in the house 🫣

Oh gawd no! There are 40 baby teeth (well, 39 now) in my household that the tooth fairy will have to eventually pay out for.

I've found a £1 coin so it'll have to be that.

£2 unless it’s lockdown and all she had was a £5 note. 🙄

I checked on the bank of England interest extrapolator thingy. The amount I received as a child back then is worth equivalent to 54p in today's money, apparently.
