Hi, I am pregnant with no3 and want to use reusable nappies this time. DH is not against it but not convinced either so has agreed to me buying 5 and trying them and then buying more if we get on with them.

My main points are I want ones that don't leak (well rarely anyway)
I want them to be quite slim fitting
And look cute! (shallow I know- sorry )

Cost isn't so much an issue so I think I would go for sized nappies as the fit is more important to me.

My problem is I get a bit obsessed with things and like spending so after doing some research bought: 1 tots bots bamboozle,
1 swaddlebees newborn velour, 1 thirsties fab fitted and 1 easy peasy bimble.

Any opinions on the ones I have got greatly apreciated.

Also spoke with a Lollipopadvso today and she recommended their fleece nappy (2 part not pocket) or their bamboo one, have ny of you tried these?

I need help before I get addicted and spend more money on the wrong things!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oooh the swaddlebees velour ones are gorgeous. They fit well too IMO.

Bamboo will take a while to dry so bear that in mind, personally I used bambinex bamboo nappies but only from size 2. They will be slimmer fitting and v absorbent though.

I really like Mother-Ease sandys for size, fit, reliability when they're little. Not particularly pretty but you can always buy pretty wraps.

I'd recommend Weenotions wraps (they work as well as Mother-Ease wraps but are made by a wahm in the uk and come in much funkier designs).

Oh and you WILL get addicted...there's no way to avoid it

Are the swaddlebees worth the money do you think? DO they contain and absrb as much as the bamboo ones or just look prettier?

The lollipop fleece abd bamboo are good - or you could go for a fuzzi bunz which are a fav with me and easy to use for novices!

missorinoco · 25/06/2008 21:53

i am a bumble fan. (a variant of the bimble)
you realise the next two people will swear by thirsties and tots bots, don't you!!

BigBadMouse · 25/06/2008 21:54

bamboozle - over-rated, won't fit for as long as you hope, low rise, bit bulky around the valcro on a newborn.

swaddlebees, lovely, get outgrown quickly

thisties - no idea, not tried em...

bimble - excellent, fab

lollipop fleece - bit bulky for the absorbancy you get

lollipop bamboo - better than a bamboozle! Fits better IMO and a good shape (better rise but with good bum coverage!)

If you don't want leaks get some motherease wraps - I have found nothing which is as good.

Thinnest fitting shaped nappy would be Ellas House Day Nappy for sure - you'll need a tumble drier to keep them soft (10 mins is all they need), buy second hand or you'll be prewashing forever they work v well with a microfibre cloth as a booster. Next thinnest would be most bamboo nappies (not little lamb though).

Pocket nappies are thin fitting but prone to leaks - bumgenius are one of the most reliable.

Octothechildherder · 25/06/2008 21:56

The lollipop micorfleece isn't bulky but the softee is huge!

I'm not a fan or bumgenius at all - just something about them makes me go all wibbly!

missorinoco · 25/06/2008 21:56

wow! you know your nappies.

Octothechildherder · 25/06/2008 21:58

I have had 20 different nappies over the years and shockingly when ds3 was little I had 40 nappies of various makes/combos which fitted him so each day was a real dilemna!

missorinoco · 25/06/2008 21:59

lol

BigBadMouse · 25/06/2008 22:34
  • seems to be a tradition now that I contradict Octo however....the softee is huuuuuge for sure. Lovely for a newborn though.

I have all my trial kits in at the moment so poor DS (4 weeks) has been in 6 different types of cloth today - tomorrow he's testing pocket nappies for me

Octothechildherder · 26/06/2008 20:54

BBM are you an advisor???

BigBadMousey · 26/06/2008 23:10

yep......you're going to say 'a bad one' one now aren't you?

BigBadMousey · 26/06/2008 23:13

must not MN when tired (please delete superfluous 'one' from previous post)

Octothechildherder · 27/06/2008 18:59

No not at all - just wondered who for!

BigBadMousey · 27/06/2008 20:18

ah....a couple of local council nappy projects (because I live on the county border I can bore advise parents on both sides ) and some independant stuff. That keeps me busy enough atm but I'm thinking of adding Lollipop to the list soon - several advisors I work with on the council side are lollipop agents too and thoroughly recommend it.

needaholiday · 28/06/2008 11:54

i wouldn;t recommend the lollipop fleece because it doesn;t soak up much, the bamboo is soft and absorbent. If you're up for trying new nappies give the kiwi quick flip nappies a go. We've always found them super reliable.

needaholiday · 28/06/2008 11:55

oh and if you want cute, look at nappy elite. free vouchers on there at the moment too.

wontbepreggersagain · 28/06/2008 12:08

i've got swaddlebees for the twins- yes they were pricy BUT i got value for money because at 6 months they are only now starting to grow out of them (they were prem!)

As a consequence of spending the extra- they have never had a sposie on their bums- sb's are just so easy and reliable!

also worth having a few pockets imo- i have some fuzzis- great backup for washing day/ poo over everything day!!

blot4 · 28/06/2008 21:34

I love Bumbles (and did use some Bimbles before hand). I also have TotsBots Bamboozles but they're not as good - despite supposedly being more absorbent, I've found they are more likely to leak at night and take forever to dry.

You can use Bumbles from birth - Bimbles only last until they weigh 15lb (optimistically at that) but they are very cute!
