No- it's fine!

on our first day we had 7 changes of pants, one change of t-shirt, and one change of my trousers.

It took us a couple of days of staying in and now he is doing really really well. Its been about three weeks

mankymummy · 25/06/2008 12:22

oh thanks sooo much, needed moral support. he has done some wees and poos on the potty too so shouldnt be too disheartened i guess...

lucky i have 15 pairs of big boy pants!!!!!!

It's our first day of potty training today too!

No accidents so far. Been to tumbletots with potty (had wee in potty while there). Napping in a nappy now.

Hey - that's great!

What I found worked was when taking him to the loo after an accident to say to him "You must say 'Mummy wee wee'".

He got it after a couple of days, only he says 'Mummy poo'! Which he is more familiar with as he has been doing his poos in the toilet from 13 months. So basically when I take him I never know what I'm going to get!

And well done for getting lots of pants - you will need them!!

ItsNotOnlyTheGoodBits · 25/06/2008 12:29

Oh you're a brave one Broccoli for going out on your first day of training! Good on you. Not something I could have done.

mankymummy · 25/06/2008 12:42

brocolli... you are putting me to shame!

im not going out for two days !!!!

i was wondering about naps... got some pullups think i will put one of those on incase he naps later...

brocolli... how old is your DC?

It's normal if you start too early - not if you start when they say "mummy, I don't want to wear nappies any more" and you say "Ok darling, here are some pants and there is the loo"

mankymummy · 25/06/2008 12:46

well he's 3 in august, already has been doing poos and wees on the toilet intermittently (at his request) and although didnt say he didnt want to wear nappies was very up for big boy pants.

certainly wouldnt push it if he werent ready.

he definitely knows he shouldnt pee on the floor i think its distraction/lazyness.

its only day 1 though!!!!

He's probably getting used to the fact that he needstodoevery wee in the toilet, and not just now-and-then. He's used to it, so it's not like it's a new concept to him.

He should be ok in a couple of days. You will find fewer accidents happen tomorrow.

callmeovercautious · 25/06/2008 12:52

Don't worry - DD pooed on my floor this morning - she has been pooing in the potty for ages no probs - a few wees go astray but never poos before

BroccoliSpears · 25/06/2008 12:53

Oh I'm only going to places where it doesn't really matter if there's an accident.

Dd is 2.2. Have been putting it off as I have a newborn but she's furiously refusing to wear nappies and for the last few days I've had to bribe her to wear them with chocolate stars . All her friends are potty training and I think she wants to join in the fun.

BlueDragonfly · 25/06/2008 12:55

we went thru every pair of pants and trousers we owned on ds1's first day! he was much better the second day (only 2 accidents iirc)

Flum · 25/06/2008 13:00

mmm potty training us too. The wees are easy, its day 4 and we are catching 8/10. The poos though, all on the floor. oops.

she is just two though so I am expecting a few weeks for her to fuly get it.

On the first day I would say we caught only 2/10 wees

mankymummy · 25/06/2008 13:05

this is all good to hear. he just had another accident and got upset trying to hold his willy to stop it coming out.

i thought then oh dear its too soon if he didnt know he was going to wee. he usually does know though...

will keep trying and just praise the times he does do it i think!

Oh bless! That's so funny Mankymummy. Your poor boy!

I would think it shows he knows he was going to do it, which is why he held his willy. It's just a matter of time for him to 'feel it' earlier.

Give him a few days and if he doesn't get it put him back in nappies and try again in a couple of months. I gave Baby GoodBits six days, and he was fine by day three. Just remember it's not that big a deal - if he's not ready he's not ready.

cheesesarnie · 25/06/2008 13:11

only 3?your doing well!

mankymummy · 25/06/2008 13:32

thanks ItsNotOnly. I think 3 days is a good plan, am planning today and tomorrow at home concentrating on it then day 3 he is at nursery and as they are far more experienced than i am, i am hoping that will be the final seal on it [optimistic emoticon]

cheesesarnie... am I? crikey everyone around me thinks Im Slack Mummy for leaving it so long!

DS now in nappy having a snooze... will try again on waking !

Yesterday: Day 1. Went to tumbletots. Went to clinic appointment. Went to a farm. Took potty with us. Not one accident. I WAS SO SMUG!

Today: Day 2. Oh dear. I stopped counting at accident #9. We've run out of knickers. That'll learn me for being smug yesterday .

needtoasksomething · 26/06/2008 22:24

WE had lots of accidents on day 1 (5 or 6 I think), a few on day 2 and 3 etc
Today is day 7 and no accidents and EVERY wee he told me before hand that he wanted to go or he just walked to potty and did it himself

Seeker - I'd say he was def ready and that lots of accidents on day 1 can be normal for children that are ready to potty train.
