Wow! Slightly envious of all these easy settled bedtimes!!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 07/07/2026 13:03

@Namesnamesnames13 We didn’t! Always went to bed later or they would not have seen their dad and had family time all week! There’s no need for very early bed unless you have a very early start and they need a lot of sleep. My DDs didn’t and we liked some time together as a family. Other people didn’t and had sleepy dc. Early nights at this time of year didn’t suit either as DDs were active.

Oh gosh I thought I was doing well with 7.30-8 ish bedtime, but this thread has given me the incentive to push it a little earlier!

@neleh87 Why earlier? What is the need? Either you have a sleepy head or you don’t. If you go earlier and they don’t settle, what then? No change from 7.30! Why not meet dc needs?

Pointless thread, stop comparing and just do what works for you and your child.

Neither of mine have ever gone to to sleep at 7pm despite us trying!

Age 3 it was:

DC1: 8.00 pm
DC2: 8.30 - 9pm (was partial to a 4 pm danger nap at nursery)

They have never been early risers though so I don't mind too much.

Overbrookanddale · 07/07/2026 14:32

About 7. She is an early riser though.

If she even naps for a few minutes she is awake until 9!

Urh · 07/07/2026 20:29

8:15pm - 6am.

We do pick up around 5.15, home by 5.30. Snack tea (e.g. toast, fruit & a yogurt) bath every other day to save time and go upstairs at 7ish. Asleep by 7.30-45 realistically!

SillyNavySnail · 07/07/2026 21:32

Usually around 9pm. No nap. 9.30/10 if has a nap at nursery. She takes forever (was so easy 6 months ago & was 8ish then). 4.5yr old often asleep 10/15 mins earlier. Woken 7.20ish, tho one (Usually eldest) is often up 7ish.

Mine is asleep by 7:30 and up at 6:50. On a weekend they lie in until we wake them around 8/8:30 or have car naps or both!
I found bedtime at 7 when she was younger a struggle as we didn't get home from nursery until 5:45.
It's much easier now it's 7:30 but we don't always give her a cooked dinner unless we're reheating a bulk cooked frozen one. We feed her lots of quick different bits of food - boiled eggs, Greek yoghurt with fruit, toast, cheese, baked potatoes, even wheetabix.
I have specific toys to play at the table so she can play whilst I prep food then she's ready to eat - colouring, jigsaws, play dog etc. I find this saves time as you're not spending time persuading her to come to the table
We only give her a bath ever other night unless she needs it so the no bath nights might have a proper cooked dinner.
7:30 is so much easier than 7pm bedtime.
But I agree with pp - don't go to the shops and just get straight home

Neither of my DC has ever fallen asleep pre 9pm. Up about 7am.

sunshinemum2026 · 08/07/2026 13:21

Usually aim for around 7-730pm but it's been harder in the heat!
