My son will be 25 months when he starts nursery. It's a lovely, quiet nursery with small rooms. He's never been to nursery before, he has been home with his nanny or myself since he was 6 months old (we lived abroad, I had to go back to work at 6 months unfortunately).

Unfortunately the timing is very close to when I start work. How long would you say it takes to.settle? I'm thinking 2 very short first days (an hour or 2), half day on the 3rd, full day on the 4th?

A week if full time. First day stay for a couple of hours, second day pick up before lunch, third day pick up after lunch but before nap, fourth day home stay for nap then straight home, fifth day full day. Or at least that’s how we did it and they settled wonderfully.

If you mean actual settling in, we did like 30 minutes, then an hour for one or two sessions, then 2 hours for a few sessions, then staying til lunch. I’d say the whole process happened over maybe 3 weeks (not every day) until we finally started our normal sessions, which was like 3 full days to start.

In terms of how long did it actually take to properly settle and be happy and content, I’d say about 3 months until there were no longer lots of tears at drop off. I expect you’ll probably need more time than you think, but it also depends on the capacity of the nursery. How well are they managing with the other children on their roster that day?
