Do teachers (and parents) prefer a traditional card or digital class thank-you?

I’ve ended up organising teacher collections a few times now, and every year it feels like the same challenges.

Collecting the money is now the easy part with easy bank transfers. The tricky bit is doing something more heartfelt to show genuine appreciation. Passing a paper card around before the end of term is always a hassle.

I’ve noticed there are now a few companies offering digital class thank-you cards where everyone can add their own message and photos online. It seems like a much easier way to involve the whole class, but I’m not sure if it loses something compared with a traditional handwritten card.

I’m curious what other people think.

Would you rather give a teacher (Poll Below):
• A traditional paper card signed by everyone?
• A digital card that the whole class can contribute to more easily?

And more generally, has anyone found a way to make organising the whole class collection less stressful? Every year it seems to turn into a last-minute scramble!

As a teacher, I would be very grateful for either and for the effort - a digital card sounds great! As a parent, I’d also like this so I can do it in my own time.

I'm a teacher. I love receiving cards and always keep them, so I would say a physical card is much better. Could you ask for individual messages via an online form and print out to put inside a card which is signed with a thank you message on behalf of everyone? That way there is something to keep but without the hassle of actually pasding a card round.

We tend to do class gifts but the kids do their own cards- could that work?

The digital card company we use collates all the messages and sends it as a physical card - Best of both worlds (and a reminder that I need to do this)

I actually think both have their place. If I'm honest, I'd probably choose a digital card because it means more parents are likely to contribute, especially those who can't easily sign a paper one. At the end of the day, I suspect it's the thoughtful messages that teachers remember most, rather than whether they were written with a pen or typed on a screen.

DH is a retired teacher and still has every Thank you card he's ever been given. So I'd say paper.
