Holiday with a 4 year old and toddler, rent double buggy or buy stroller??

Going on holiday in sept with my almost 4 year old and 16m old.
destination is pretty hilly and my 4yo isn’t the best walker - he starts off ok then starts to whinge plus takes ageeeeees (standard!)

wondering whether to rent a double buggy (seen one for £80 to rent) or buy the 4yo a cheap stroller of his own?

I'd buy a pushchair.

Double buggy with a four year old would be hard going up hilly territory. Are you going with DH ? Cheap umbrella folding buggy and baby's pushchair .

Yeah hubby going too!
Was thinking a cheap stroller would be way to go!

Depends where you are going. I would be thinking something like the out n about rather than a cheap buggy if it's hilly. I found 3 big wheels much easier to push (especially when they are bigger).... See what's on Facebook marketplace?

Madeira

Attached is what I had seen to rent.

That’s going to be awkwardly too wide and very heavy with a 4 year old and a toddler plus all their stuff. Plus in Madeira, a lot of lovely walking is on paths rather than nice paved streets. Can one of you carry or sling one or both of them? We went to San Francisco when eldest was 4. Obviously lots of walking and very hilly. Dh put her on his shoulders when she got tired. It means we didn’t have to struggle with a pushchair up steep hills.

We used 2 buggies for that sort of trip at those ages. Much more convenient than a double as one could go off in a different area/loo break and still have their own buggy. It would be too unpredictable to know if a side by side stroller could fit everywhere you need to go.

Seems like a second cheap stroller is the way to go.
In response to shoulder carrying yes my husband does that here on walks but doesn’t seem sustainable in high heat/humidity for potentially 90 plus mins?

Second cheap stroller. We’ve got a 4 year old who doesn’t love walking, and an 18 month old. Both of them in YoYos for holiday. Easier to take them as carry on too.
