has anyone's dc ever gone straight to no nappies AT ALL - i.e. dropped nighttime nappies at the same time as daytime nappies???

have potty trained ds1 (3.1yo) over the weekend - he's done really well and only had accidents when friends were here on sunday

i assumed he'd be in nappies at night for some time yet but on sunday night it was completely dry, then last night he called out at midnight to say he wanted a wee. said he didn't want to do in his nappy, so he went to the toilet

then took ages for him to go back off to sleep

this morning he'd taken his nappy off before getting out of bed, and did his first wee of the day in the toilet

This didn't happen with either DS or DD but I think that it does happen quite often.

Well done to your DS1

FAQ · 24/06/2008 11:17

Didn't happen with DS1 or 2, but happened to my SIL's DD2 - when she was 22 months old !

Iota · 24/06/2008 11:20

yes my ds2 refused to wear a nappy or a pull up as soon as he was day-time trained. He would just take it off if I put one on him, so we went for it at night as well.

Get a waterproof matteress cover if you don't already have one and go for it

Yep - we did it with DS - and he was fine, saved a fortune in nappies - he had about 3 accidents at night but we just used pampers bed mats and chucked them.

pagwatch · 24/06/2008 11:23

yes.
My DD just decided that she was done with nappies and stopped. She was quite late though - a bit over two.
The really remarkable thing was once she decided she just did it. We have never had an accident either day or night. not once.

( not the sign of anything brilliant though. Perhaps just G&T in the knickers dept . )

4andnotout · 24/06/2008 11:23

Both of my dd's did it this way, dd1 was 2.6 and dd2 2.8, both were a bit later than friends children but were dry day and night within a week.

yes my dd1 did. actaully she was dry in the night before she was dry in the day.

we have never had an accident in bed but have had a few puddles on the top of the stiars where she has woken up needing the loo, realised that she is not going to make so has squatted and relieved herself all over the carpet!!!

we started keeping a potty just outside her bedroom door after that!

Pidge · 24/06/2008 11:33

Yes, dd2 did that - she was exactly 2 years old. Couldn't believe it really, as dd1 who was 4 and had been potty trained since age 2 was still in night time nappies at the time (she 'caught up' with her younger sister a couple of months later!).

Fennel · 24/06/2008 11:36

Yes all 3 of mine were out of night nappies within a couple of weeks of day nappies. They just all didn't want to put nappies on at bedtime, once they were used to not wearing nappies. and they were fine.

one was 28 months, one 22 months, one 39 months. So they were average, early and late in terms of potty training but all were fine without night nappies once they were dry in the day.

BobbyGrantycal · 24/06/2008 11:38

ds1 did - was dry in night before i potty trained him actually

ds2 didnt

pagwatch · 24/06/2008 11:39

Tutter
ditto
I did wonder a ittle about my parenting when DD came to me and asked if she could go into pants rather than nappies.
i sometimes ponder how long it would have been if she hadn't asked....
ahh the joys ogf the third child. No competetive potty trainning, just an easy life

FruitfulOfFruit · 24/06/2008 11:39

DD was dry in the day at 26 months and announced that she wasn't wearing night nappies 6 weeks later. She had quite possibly been dry all that time - it hadn't occurred to me to check! She didn't have any accidents, which was a good job since it was 3 days before we were going camping...

Ds1 is recently trained at 3.3 and I think he might be dry at night. But I'm not going there yet - it won't take him long to realise that he can get me to come running all night and early in the morning by shouting "wee". And ds2 has only just started sleeping through - I'll be buying night nappies for a while I think!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 24/06/2008 15:36

DS was dry at night ages before he was potty trained. I used to just used to put him in his 'big boy pants'- motherease training pants at night, then when he stopped nappies just his pj's.

Cadmum · 24/06/2008 15:40

Only one of our four did this and she was really accident free from 21 months by her own choosing. (How easy she made this whole lard seem until we tried to repeat the process with DC#3 and DC#4.)

Incidentally, 3 of my four were dry through the night before they attempted to train through the day (including aforementioned precocious toddler).

Wishing you every success as we are failing miserably with DC#4 ATM.

Cadmum · 24/06/2008 15:42

lark even...

bogie · 24/06/2008 15:43

Ds potty trained at 20 months and was dry at night we put nappies on for the first week but he was always dry so stopped.
We bought a pck of pampers bed mats 7 mats for about £4 I think, and he is still on the first pack he has only had 2 wet nights in 10 months.

PortAndLemon · 24/06/2008 15:44

DS could have done. In practice we kept the night time nappies on for two or three weeks, but he wasn't weeing in them at night once he was dry in the day.

gladders · 24/06/2008 15:51

ds potty trained at 30 months, and from day one would call out when he needed a wee in the night so we gave up on the nappies and he's been fine!

minster · 26/06/2008 11:21

dd did this I started potty training at 2 years 8 months & she was dry day & night within 3 days. She's wet the bed 4 or 5 times since (nearly 8 now) & had a handful of daytime accidents. She'd been dry in the night for a month or so before we started.

Flibbertyjibbet · 27/06/2008 18:28

ds1 was dry at night within a month of being dry in the day. He was 2.6 and I think he just twigged that he was only supposed to wee in the potty, whether it was day or night.

But I know that not everyones child does that, so was very pleasantly surprised this morning when ds2 (2.1), on day 5 of potty training today - his nappy was dry this morning! It was me nearly wetting myself with the shock If its dry for a few mornings over the next week or so then we will stop using nappies at night.

With ds1 there were accidents at night, but then you have to expect accidents potty training during the day, so I expect them at night too.
