What time do your 9 year olds go to bed on a school night?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Everything off 7:30, read until 8 then lights out

HonestBlueRobin · 16/06/2026 22:48

My son is 9 next month... lights out at 8.30pm sleeping for 9pm. What time is your child currently going?

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 16/06/2026 22:50

SD had lights out at about 9pm, she slept a lot! My 6yo is quite low sleep needs and it's already hard to get her to sleep before 10pm so imagine it will be later at 9. We get up at 8am for school.

Lights out for 8/8:15.
usually make our way upstairs around 7:30, he loves to read so he can stay up doing that.

RiskyBiz · 16/06/2026 23:04

Supposed to be 8pm, but usually around 8.30pm.
Upstairs ready for bed and reading from 8pm though. Almost 10y though and always struggled with falling asleep.

Trainstrike · 16/06/2026 23:06

In rooms by 8.30pm and in bed by 9.15pm. Mine are rubbish sleepers though so quite often still drawing or reading at 10pm.

Heloustune · 16/06/2026 23:06

9.30pm. We don't have any rules about being upstairs or lights out, they just need to be in bed by then.

I have sleep thieves so these bed times seem very early to me. My older DS was at beavers once a week until 8 from the age of 6 then cubs, scouts and now he's in explorers he stays until 9pm. Asleep before 11 is an early night for my 10 year old, he's autistic and just has really low sleep needs compared to others. He's quite happy to go up but I can't ultimately force him to be asleep.

about 8pm because they have to be up at 7 for school

I have an 8 year old and he goes to actual sleep usually between 9:30-10pm. We aren’t an early household though. We tend to have dinner around 7:30/8pm and I have a teen who has sports training until 9pm, 15 minutes away. So sometimes he has to come along on pick up or at the very least is being disturbed by the late dinner, shower, homework that happens after that. Pretty much as a household we go to bed at 10pm. That’s the same on the weekends.

It depends on but on wake up times.
Older child has always been an early riser (even after a late night)
So when they were 9 lights were usually off between 8 and 8:30pm. ( Exception being night(s) they did a club that fell noshed late. )

Younger child still relatively early riser but not to same.extent as other child we aim for lights off 8:30 but this can be 9:00pm if we are running behind. They are currently 11 and in year 6 if it's.anynlater than this they can struggle to get Go Ng on school mornings and if they have several 9pm.or.latwr nights in a row they usually end up self.correcting and.askong to go to bed and lights off earlier.

My Dd would be in bed about 8pm and asleep by 8.30 when she was 9

xOlive · 17/06/2026 09:37

DD has just turned 9 and it’s always been in bed for 7:30 but that’s crept up to 8pm even 8:30 the last couple of months. We’re up at 6:30-7:00 to get ready for school.
Baby sister has a burst of energy at 8pm which hasn’t helped.
