Sick toddler

I'm pulling my hair out so would be grateful for any advice / experience.

My DS 2.5 has been sick for over a week now. He has had a cold the last 2 weeks but this esclated on Friday when he refused his tea and vomitted. For the following week he has been active in the morning, playing, watching TV and eating, albeit less than normal. By the mid afternoon, he is nauseated for 30 or 40 minutes before being sick once, then refusing any food afterwards and being quite miserable. He hasn't had a fever once. He is keeping hydrated and isn't constipated.

Ive called 111 who referred me to a chemist and been to the GP twice. The GP didn't seem to bothered and said come back in a week, still adamant it was viral. This cycle of being relatively normal and sick once every day at 3-5pm is baffling. Any ideas???

So sorry you’re going through this. Have you tried keeping a good diary to see if there’s a trigger? Maybe if he’s having milk it could be that?

Thanks for replying. I cut out dairy for a day and it seemed to make no difference. I could try it for a longer period of time.

Sorry I’m pretty clueless too.

GP is probably right that it's viral, these things can drag on 😔 if he gets worse over the weekend, do call 111 for advice.

My toddler, same age, has just had exactly the same symptoms - plus a very high fever towards the end. He is a generally healthy boy, and despite picking up the usual germs, I’ve never felt the need to take him to the GP or even call 111 until this. The day after his fever broke he came up in a post viral rash.

We have a suspicion it’s Covid, based on a relative being unwell and having tested positive (in hospital). They had been in contact and had similar lingering symptoms (immunocompromised).

It’s hard to manage as you can’t keep topping them up with Nurofen/Calpol all the time… we just responded to whatever issue presented at the time. Lots of fluids and rest - my low sleep needs boy was sleeping 14-15hrs a day.

My GP offered a testing swab to confirm what he had, not sure if/when we will get results as he’s better now. But the GP said she was seeing lots of young children presenting with similar, some ending up in A and E.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

I had Covid recently and vomiting was the main problem

I wouldn't have even contemplated covid. Thanks for your input. Hope everyone is recovered.
