How can I stop my four year old picking scab on face

Please help - my four year old DS is scratching a scab off his face everyday and making it bleed. It started as a bite a month ago and is now a big angry red spot. He will not stop picking and scraping it. He does it in bed or car or sitting down. I have tried sneaking in and putting Vaseline on when he sleeps but it just won’t heal. I can’t reason with him - he simply won’t listen.

ive tried telling him it won’t go, it’ll get bigger, his friends will ask what it is. It might get infected and he might need to go to the doctors… literally nothing words. Any advice welcome!!!

Cut his nails very short
Tape gloves to his hands

Put a plaster on it? A cool one with pictures so he wants to keep it on.

It might be impetigo now due to scratching. Take him to the dr asap. It’s very itchy and very contagious.

Take him to gp or pharmacist
Do not make gp a punishment
Dont make it like gp is a bad person or scary

Put a massive dressing on, those silver ones with the very thin plastic film. Cut his nails as short as you can. Hopefully he won’t be able to get it off (I can barely get them off!)

My daughter kept doing this. We got her some
of those little star shaped spot patches that teenagers use which worked really well.

Thanks all, some good ideas to try. He told me earlier he doesn’t like it so is trying to scratch it off! I’ll try again with the Hot Wheels plasters @TheOccupier and did also consider the spot patches, thanks @WhiskersPete

A relative is a GP and has spoken to him but he’s indignant - will persevere

Can he explain why he doesn't like it? If he doesn't like the look of it, then covering it makes sense; if he doesn't like the way it feels, you could try a bit of numbing cream - ask a pharmacist what they recommend.

I think it’s how it looks. He’s currently in bed with a Hot Wheels plaster covering it so this is progress. Thanks all!
