I need help. I've bought dd the mothercare winnie the pooh 'comfy trainer with handles' and can't get it to fit our loo, which is a standard loo. Thre are no real instructions with it and the picture on the front does not look like the seat itself. does it go uner the loo seat or on top; it just seems to slip whrever i put it. and it cost a fortune.....

ive also had a potty that converts to a step and booster seat for the toilet... which was rubbish. and have the 'family seat' on the toilet at home. kids wont use it, even that.

olivo · 21/06/2008 19:20

sixteen flipping quid - down the pan, pardon the pun . I knew ishould have got the cheaper one but dd was so excited when seh saw this one. is it worth getting a dfferent one or are they all like this, do you know?

if its the same allinone, its not v good. again, its got the insecure fit as a toilet seat/step... and as a potty it has reservoirs that collect pee. not nice. waste of money

olivo · 21/06/2008 20:02

thanks for the warning, i think we'll stick with our home-decorated, very cheap potties for now!

i do think the 'family seat' thing is good... its the only seat that is the right size and a secure fit... but like i say, they wont hear of using it! but then, i have boys, i dont know if that makes a diff as they like to pee standing up. when it comes to poos, they prefer to balance and hold on to either the adult seat or, in the 2yos case, on the loo itself with no seat at all [weirdo]

olivo · 21/06/2008 20:26

lol, i still cling to the seat when i've had too many glasses of wine .
where is the 'family'seat from?

i got mine at m'care
this is first link i could find think it was about 30 quid at mothercare. not cheap but i figured it was a long term investment (i had 3 under 3 you see)

We have this family toilet seat in white it is great.

StripySails · 21/06/2008 20:39

Olivo. I'm slightly confused. Do you mean this ? I've had one of these and used it for ds for nearly a year. It fits mine and the many other toilets I've used it on perfectly. It goes on top of the seat, sometimes you have to push it down firmly. I'm not quite sure exactly what problems you're having.

olivo · 21/06/2008 20:55

yes, stripy, that's the one. i will try again pushing it firmly as you suggest, but it just seemed to slip around when i tried to 'fit it' earlier on.i'll try again on the upstairs loo, but i think they're all the same in our house.

amphib / nobodysfool, will have a look for that one if i can't sort this one out, you're right, it is quite expensive, but i would like another baby so it wuold be a good 'investment' (DH needs to see it as this!)

no, just tried it again and it just slips and slides, a total non- fit. I'm equally annoyed about the picture on the front of the packaging, which shows a seat without handles; although i could clearly see it had handles as i bought it, i assumed because of the picture that i could also use it without - otherwise, why the picture?

Had same probs, with WP seat, slipped all over the place and far to expensive and not very easy to clean IMO. Prefer the family toilet seat or this cheaper alternative - flip toilet trainer, or the basic seats that fit under the toilet seat and up through the hole so the weight of toilet seat stops it sliding, also have used soft seat as shown on link too and it worked fine, but I would tend to go for the cheap and chearful options!

ah, princess, they look more like a less expensive mistake. don't have a toysrus but i think i can order online.

sorry, forgot to say thank you for all the suggestions. still trying to get over the shock of wasting sixteen pounds [anger]

StripySails · 21/06/2008 21:15

And you are putting it on top of the seat, not directly onto the fixed ceramic? If you are then I have no other suggestions I'm afraid, nor any explanation for your problems. Unless your toilets are designed for people with particularly large arses My ds insisted (and still will sometimes) that we took the seat out with us (yes, I felt very trendy! I used to have a life) so we used it on loads of different toilets and never had a problem.

You can't take the handles off either, they are an integral part of it. Although I wouldn't have wanted to - ds held on firmly to feel secure. Maybe you;ll just have to abandon it and try one of the other options. But it's a shame when you've spent the money isn't it?

Amphibimum · 21/06/2008 21:23

oh the ones on princess's link look a MUCH better price!!

weird how all the loos stripey used it on fitted... certainly didnt fit on mine either...

olivo · 21/06/2008 21:23

yes, putting it on top of the seat. will take it to the outlaws house tomorrow and see if it fits there. at least we'll get some use of it, if so!I assumed the handles came off it so that once they were used to using the seat itself, you could get them confident wothout the handles.
lol at you taking the seat out with you!
