Muzzy Free 30 day trial...anyone signed up?

I've just had a look at the Muzzy website, there was a link saying 'try Muzzy free for 30 days'. All I have to do is pay the 6quid (hardly free) fee.
Has anyone tried the 'free/£6' trial? Are there any hidden catches?
Also, how good is Muzzy? Is it worth the money?
Many thanks

What a rip off!

I have muzzy gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere.

The dds watched it for about 2 weeks on and off then got bored. You have to watch it over and over to get anything worthwhile. I don't think it's great. Animation is crap and very tedious after a while.

Smartiejake would you consider selling muzzy if it's gathering dust (is it french?)

I have Muzzy gathering dust too. My DS has Asperger's and found the characters scary

Its the French edition, on video. I'd be willing to sell. I have level 1 AND 2.

Muzzy is a rip-off. Not only because it has crappy graphics etc but because looking at animated fuzzy animals is not how you learn a language.

I learned English in school. Then, more recently, I learned French. In both, watching others (i.e. human beings) speak and imitating them was a vital part of the learning experience. A language is not just words strung together, it is also the pitch of voice, facial expressions, etc. All this can't be learned from an animated bear on a computer screen.

If you want to go down the animation route, a much simpler and fun way is to make sure all cartoon DVDs somehow work only in the language you want kids to learn.

I hated "Muzzy" when I started teaching fifteen years ago but I have to admit to being wrong.

I use it now because the age group I teach (4 -12) actually like it. The vowel songs (in English at least) are catchy. The kids like it because they can participate. We have the dvds - so I put the subtitles up to help with reading, too.

Is it worth the money? Probably not - Muzzy was given away here with a newspaper and I just get the kids to bring it in . Definitely go the second-hand route. Don't have any great expectations, it is just another resource.

I teach French to children in York. I'm always being asked about Muzzy. People I know who have bought it have either found their child loved it or hated it. I guess the trial is to help you decide which catergory their child fits in. It's great you want you child to learn a language - there are so many benefits, and it's good to have a variety of learning tools - CDs, DVDs, books etc.

We tried out the German version of Muzzy recently and were quite dissapointed by the quality, both in terms of the story line and the sound quality. Not great value for money!

We prefer ordering German dvds/books from amazon.de.

I have the Italian Muzzy and although it is expensive I like it & my son likes it too. It's very simple and worth a look. No hidden catches with the 30-day guarantee. I thought it was a rip-off when I first got it as it really is simple but it caught my sons attention and he likes it. We watch it together and repeat the words.

It was £100 plus cash down the drain when I bought it.
