Ways to gently encourage skincare

My son is 15 and is struggling with acne on his forehead. Currently his strategy is to cover it with his hair. I’ve gotten him face wash and acne pads but he doesn’t use them consistently. Sometimes I feel like he doesn’t listen or know what to do with a product, and I want to encourage him without making him self conscious about his acne. Please share your tips with me!

I’m afraid I was blunt in this situation. I’ve bought you some wipes use them every night to help your skin, don’t pick or you’ll scar. Didn’t feel like there was a gentle way to do it!

I think gentle and nudging can lead to shame as if he can’t directly address it either.

Just have a conversation and name the chemicals that will help and what is likely to irritate. Discuss retinoids as last resort but let him know it exists if the thorough routine doesn’t help.

I would also get him some nice gentle products. Those wipes are awful and painful. I would just focus on gentle cleansing and then take him to find some sort of acne treatment he wants to use. Some of it is just having some agency over it.

Just to say I got basic “simple” cleansing wipes. Nothing harsh or astringent. I figure it’s a relatively natural if annoying thing (which the fringe exacerbates) so didn’t want to go in too hard

I make my 14yr old do his skincare with me. Only way it gets done some weeks! I also bought Caroline hirons skincare book for teenagers which was very helpful for him.
