My teeth hurt when baby is teething- anyone else?

Ok so this may be a really weird observation and it’s entirely possible that no one else agrees but I swear that whenever my two babies have been teething really bad my teeth/gums are sore, I feel this painful pressure in my gums like I’m going out in sympathy with them or something. Has anyone ever experienced this or am I crazy 😂 i exclusively breastfeed and I am wondering if there’s something in the feedback system that is causing this. Anyway, would love to know peoples experiences!!

wow @Flowersdie absolutely no need to be quite so rude. I have looked this up and could find absolutely no evidence for it but the pain I experience is so real that I figured there must be something to it so thought out of interest I would ask other mums for some anecdotal evidence, didn’t think I would receive such a unnecessarily pointed response

So you looked it up and found nothing at all. And then you looked up the science of it and presumably…found nothing at all. So you thought….. no I’m not sure

@Flowersdie So you’re basically saying that something that’s never been explored should never be questioned or studied? If everyone had that attitude we would never make any advancements/never learn anything new. I’m only looking for peoples experiences, there are lots of things that have no scientific backing but people experience them/believe in them anecdotally especially when it comes to motherhood and maternal wisdom.
its pretty clear how you feel on the subject but a simple ‘no I’ve never experienced that’ would have sufficed

It's empathy pain I think. If you think about a body part enough it can start hurting, and it's 90% in your head, but definitely a thing. So because you're thinking about tooth pain (not yours), it's setting you off.

When writing this, I focussed on my right ankle
Guess what, it's feeling a bit sore now, whereas was fine 5 minutes ago. Brains are weird 😂.

@Babyboomtastic yes I think you’re right! Isn’t the human brain just fascinating.

Yep.

Something lovely to dwell on during the next night feed - my child was in hospital for a while as a 1yo, and when she had a cuddle, I could see her heart rate reduce on the monitors. I could see the effect that a mums hug had on her.

You'll be glad to know that my ankle is fine now, or at least was until I've come back to the post and started thinking about it again 😂.

I really feel it when my little ones hurt themselves, like if they are running and hit their knee, or if they have a bug and feel lousy. Women's brains are the most advanced on the planet - the advanced empathy centres mean that if a woman sees a loved one get hurt, the part of her brain responsible for pain in that part of the body will light up, in the same way as if she herself was hurt. Will see if I can find the study, it is in a book I have somewhere.

Here is a link to the experiment I read about:newsroom.ucla.edu/stories/womens-brains-show-more-empathy

They looked at partners, the bond with one's children is an order of magnitude greater, I totally get your empathetic toothache!
