Ideas for after-school club snacks that keep well in a bag

My 5yo DD does after school clubs three times a week and I have to provide snacks for her in her school bag on those days.

Struggling a bit with what to send - crisps/choc etc not allowed and would probably avoid sending anyway. She will happily eat fruit and veg etc but given most of that would need to be cut up I feel like that will be a bit limp by the end of the day, especially in summer?

What are people sending in that will still be appetising at the end of the day?

You’re allowed nuts in school?

Plenty of UK schools allow nuts!

newornotnew · 02/05/2026 17:50

Savoury flapjacks are good for this.

My nephew’s school allows them but his Stagecoach and Blackheath Conservatoire don’t.

The tiny mini pizzas that are in the party food sections are good for these kind of snacks.

Ooh good shout. I collect my nephew on Mondays from school and take him via bus to music lesson so these are good ideas. He gets I’m sure snacks in after school club but nothing on the Monday unless his mum does it. As he likes crisps I got him Squares as they’re a lower calorie option. He also loves ripe nectarines.

If allowed, peanut butter sandwich I use Warburtons thins. A few Quorn picnic eggs. Hummus and carrots pack. Maybe a Soreen or Bonne Maman cake bar. Cucumber sticks. Pepperami. Baby bel. Dairylea triangles. All these 7 year old nephew devours.

Do baby bel and dairylea not need to be refrigerated? I thought they would as they are cheese. I would love to give my dc this but am worried it would go off by the afternoon.

Do you have a recipe? I've only seen sweet ones.

Babybels and cheese strings are absolutely fine out of the fridge for a day.

I'd pack things like mini breadsticks, cheese strings/baby bel, baby cucumber, whole apples, satsumas or bananas (in a case).

Just checked the Babybel website and it is fine out of the fridge for 2 weeks 😂

They should only be banning nuts if their is actually a child there with a nut allergy.

Dairy allergies cause more child deaths than nuts but funnily enough no schools are dairy free.

Well I don’t know about kids with a nut allergy there, presumably not. We gave him a peanut butter sandwich for lunch there when he returned after getting his plaster cast taken off.

You can get a flexi ice pack or just use eg a frozen Capri Sun. I’ve done both.

Interesting re dairy allergies. My DB was dairy allergic as a child and could only drink goats milk.

😱! What is in them? Actually I don’t want to know!

Nestle chocolate flavour milk slices are nice if they’re allowed.

They're sealed in wax. Cheese existed for a long time before fridges did.
