Potty or straight to toilet ?

I went straight to the toilet with my boys lazy mare could not be arsed with swishing out an effing potty

Good luck

alarkaspree · 20/06/2008 13:59

I found potty easier because they can do it themselves, so you don't have to hover over them constantly.

How old is ds? Don't worry, it will be fine.

he's just three

a bit of both (potty and toilet) - anyone advise one over the other?

OP posts:
MamaG · 20/06/2008 14:05

Good luck tuts. We had a bit of both, but soon ditched the potty - had a little seat on the loo so he didn't feel he was going to fall in!

My tip - cover the sofa with a throw

ladytophamhatt · 20/06/2008 14:07

1st few days have potties all over teh house, we had about 6.

once he's gotthe hang of it reduce teh number and move them towards the toiletuntil there just one left.

Leave one potty in the tiolet so he can choose which we wants to use.

After a few weeks/months take the last one away.

Simple.

Tutter · 20/06/2008 14:32

i think i may have to hide his juice

he's sussed the bribery rewards thing and has done 4 wees in the potty since coming home from nursery

he may well be sick in his potty soon

How did teh 1st day go tutter?

Tutter · 20/06/2008 20:20

really good, thanks lth

only started at 1pm, as he was in nursery this morning

but since then, about 7 wees in the potty/toilet, one accident (wee) while watching a dvd, plus a poo in the potty after tea

the poo was anticipated so i sat him on the potty and let him play on the wii - so tomorrow i'm hoping he will spot it coming and tell me

he seems proud of himself - was excited to tell dh when he got in this evening

OP posts:
ladytophamhatt · 20/06/2008 20:23

Thats FAB tutter, especially him being excited about it too.

I always made ahuge big deal about them telling DH and I think it really help.

I bet your ds1 will have it sussed in no time.

Tutter · 21/06/2008 13:28

ok, so when do i brave A Trip Out?

no accidents today, only 3 wees, all int he potty

i haven't bought one of those portable disposable nappy thingies- should i just chuck a potty int he back of the car?

and a towel ont he car seat?

Tutter · 21/06/2008 13:46

AitchNunsnet · 21/06/2008 13:48

i got those pads out of boots (maternity bed pads cheaper than cot ones) and had that on the car seat. apart from that, dd just has a wee on the grass or down a drain and we try her at every public loo we pass...

Aarrgghh · 21/06/2008 13:52

Hi Tutter

I started on Thursday (DS 2.7) as it was my non working day and took him to soft play and the park - I just took the potty with me.

I don't drive but going in friends car tomorrow so will put bath towel in car seat.

Had no accidents at all - if being honest he was ready a month or so ago but not ready for trips out.

He declared to most of Morrison's this morning that he had big boy pants on!!

Good Luck!

Tutter · 23/06/2008 10:45

doing pretty well so far

when there are no/few distractions he is ace

yesterday though we had friends here (with kids) and he had 3 accidents, inc. one comical one in the garden where i thought he needed a wee so crouched next to him, pointing percy (i know ) and waiting patiently, oblivious to the large poo that had plopped out and was lying on his trousers - doh

he's in nursery tomorrow morning - will be interesting to see how he manages there...

DontCallMeBaby · 23/06/2008 11:13

Nursery may seem like a disaster at first - DD and I had four solid days together to get started when she was 2.6, by day 3 we had an uneventful trip to the supermarket, excellent ... however on day 5 (nursery) she went through her original clothes AND both changes I'd packed for her, ending up in a set of nursery clothes. That was the only really bad day though, after that there were a small number of 'one-accident' days, and yes, it was ALWAYS when they were playing outside and it was just much too exciting to go inside to the loo.

Mumsnut · 23/06/2008 11:16

Did he settle at nursery then? (vaguely remembers older thread...)

Tutter · 23/06/2008 11:22

he did thanks mumsnut (i take it you are a namechanger...)

only one week of tears - has loved it since then

we have to change nurseries soon though as we move house in august - fingers crossed that he manages that ok

OP posts:
Mumsnut · 23/06/2008 19:35

Good luck with that. My ds never shed a tear at nursery, but moving house turned him into a clingaholic for a day or two.

Don't do what we did - took some of his toys to the new house before we moved in, arranged them in 'his' room, and then left ... I think he thought we would do the same with him

Flamesparrow · 24/06/2008 20:04

How did today go?

Flameboy has nursery tomorrow. We have had an accident a day so far (plus one where he didn't get his pants down in time, so am not counting it ). Were out nearly all of today

I'm oddly chuffed.
