Should school have told me staff changed my son's clothes?

I don't know if I am thinking too much about it but a few weeks ago my 5 year old son came home from school in different trousers and underwear and said it was because he was playing in the mud in the afterschool club so a male member of staff changed his trousers and underwear. Then last week when my partner was collecting my son from afterschool club he said a male member of staff kind of rushed up to him and said he had to pull my son's pants down because my son had said he wet himself and said a female teacher was present also-he hadn't wet himself though. It was weird because his class teacher was in afterschool club and she is never usually there. My partner also said there was a police car parked in the school grounds. My son hasn't said anything untoward happened but shouldn't the school be telling me if they are changing him and putting underwear on him that aren't his? There other strange thing is that lately I noticed his teacher a d other afterschool club female staff members aren't making eye with me. I feel uncomfortable with any male members of school staff being involved in any intimate care as well.

He hadn’t wet himself? So why is he pulling his pants down would be my first question.

I would raise it to get some more information

If there was police involvement to do with this man and your child you would have been told

So the staff member was checking. Speak to his teacher and the head.

NuffSaidSam · 27/04/2026 15:21

Did they not send his dirty clothes home with him?

frenchnoodle · 27/04/2026 15:21

If the police were there about this member of staff he would have been suspended until an investigation happened.

Staff do have to check if children are wet / dirty. Even after school clubs alhave a duty of care. So if your son says he is wet it will be checked.

JustGiveMeReason · 27/04/2026 15:24

Wouldn't you notice, anyway, if your child came home in different clothes, with a bag containing his dirty clothes ?

What do you want them to do? Leave them in wet / muddy clothes?

No idea why you are referencing a police car being at the school ?

LemonSorbetCone · 27/04/2026 15:24

this is all very odd. Speak to the teacher.
most 5 year olds can change themselves and they all know if they are wet or not. I’d tell them to help him find his dry clothes and walk him to the loo where he will sort himself out. My child didnt get any help with changing when he had an accident recently.

Usually the rules are 2 adults present for safeguarding, but every school will have an intimate care policy which you will have signed and agreed to either before joining, or early in September.

Most 5 year olds will change themselves.

accidents are quite common at this age which is why most schools either ask for a spare set of clothes or keep spares in for the kids to change into.

they usually send the wet ones home in a plastic bag.

if your son says he was wet they will have asked him to change, if he said he couldn’t do it on his own someone will have helped him.

there will be dm intimate care policy that says who and how many people are needed.

Surely at five if someone wets themselves they told to go to the toilets, are given clothes to change into but do not need their undies physically pulled down by the teacher? The kid surely can change themselves? And where did this disrobing take place? And why was this teacher seemingly in such a tizz about it? Did you get the dirty or wet clothes back?

The police car outside I imagine is nothing whatsoever to do with it though.
