Could I have some personal recommendations for the best/easiest electric shaver for a 9 year old please? For use on her legs.
Thanks in advance. 🙂

Nine?? Has she asked for something?

Agree with PP - none.

My daughter was begging to shave from the age of 8 so I do understand. I bought her an electric Ladyshave and taught her how to use it. As long as you can help your daughter understand that she doesn't need to shave, teaching her how to do it safely is reasonable.

No I just don't like her having hairy legs....
Kidding, obviously. She's self conscious to the point she won't now wear shorts outside of the house even when the weather's warm or for PE at school. As much as I think it's far too young (I was 12/13) it's her body and her choice. It's a sad reflection of our patriarchal society but I'm not forcing my 9 year old to lead the revolution. I'd rather her use a safe electric razor with my help and support than her trying to tackle it herself and potentially do herself some damage or remain self conscious and uncomfortable in warm weather.

Second thread about shaving at this age. Be wary.

There was one a couple of days ago too.

It's a bit odd but I think there are young girls who want to shave their legs.

MindBodySoul · 22/04/2026 17:35

You didn't add any of the reason on your OP so my reply was based on you generally asking for a shaver for a nine year old. My daughter is nine and under our circumstances there is absolutely no reason for her to shave her legs at this age. I dont think she is even aware women actually do shave their legs lol

But after your update I can see how you want to help her, sad as it is unfortunately by no fault of her own or yours

Following a similar concern from my own daughter at age 12 (dark hair and was becoming increasingly self conscious about it), I suggested she try my epilator - no risk of cutting herself and smooth/ non-prickly regrowth. I made sure she tested on a small area before committing - warning her it was not comfortable, particularly at first.
She now manages just fine using the epilator as and when she feels the need (one year on).

Great advice, thank you. I'd not thought about her testing a small area first.

I realise you were asking about ‘shaver’ recommendations but thought epilation may be worth some consideration also. Hope you didn’t mind.

Not at all, thanks!

Sorry I didn’t even think it was possible to need it at that age.
Mine started early or so I thought and I was about twelve. I’m pretty fair so it showed up so I’d cut myself to ribbons trying to shave myself.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if the manufacturers designed them for girls that are just starting. I don’t think we get a very good deal, women’s razors aren’t as good as men’s nor are the blades and they should be we use them more!
Anyway, I’d just buy your dd a little ladyshave type thing and see how she gets on. Epilators are a bit dodgy at her age they can cause ingrowns and stimulate growth.
