First word

Little one was just asking some questions about him being a baby / developing, including when he started talking. We were really fortunate to catch his first word on video: "kick, kick, kick" while in his bouncer, kicking his legs (he asked to see it).

It was just before he turned 6 months.

It's been some time ago but it got me wondering whether anyone else has had a little one say a deliberate word, so early on, and what it was / how it came about?

I remember my 3 month old lying on my lap copying my vocalisation. Not words as such but copying me for a bit. It was really cute. Then she totally lost the ability and first real word came a few months later.

.... we got it on video. I was saying "i love you", and she copied

That's awesome! And sooooo cute!

We also had a gap between that and his next words ☺️

Ahhhhh wow!!! What a thing to have caught on video ☺️

That's funny. Perhaps they just figure out a sound they made by
mistake is similar to what they heard. So keep doing the same thing, which is different to having the control to say a word. Although you're little one also used it in context!!! That's pretty cool

Oh, they absolutely do that ☺️

In this instance, he seemed to understand what he was saying and be deliberate in saying it. He wasn't repeating back to us - he just came out with it while he was kicking his legs in his bouncer! I had used to say "kick, kick, kick" to him, while he was lying on his changing mat, kicking his legs, so I think he had properly learned the word in context.

We had exactly the same at just before 3 months and also got a video. My husband said, "I love you," and she responded, "Ah uff ooh." You can see the effort on her little face.

She then had a name for me "gugga" and would always say it when I came into the room, but her first "proper" word was 7 months when she pointed right at my husband and said "Daddy."

We had something similar around that age, though I can't remember whether we caught it on camera. The other one that had us in fits was when he was around 4 months and we were all lying on our bed - he turned his head to my husband and said "hello" like a little English gentleman. It was clear as a bell and absolutely hilarious (obviously, a total accident).

Saying "Daddy" is sooo cute! And at 7 months 🥺 I love the idea that something so small and new to the world can do that! Our lad said "Mama" and "Dadda" for a looong time before he got the hang of Mummy and Daddy!

Also... It's always Dads before Mums, isn't it 😏 So much for those 9 months, eh 🤣 Little tinkers!
