Any parents with experience of hydrocele surgery and recovery in boys?

Hello!

So, as a worried father and an overthinker, i’m just wondering if there any other parents of boys out there who have had experience in their sons going through surgery to correct Hydrocele (build up of fluid) in their testicles?

I’ve looked online and only seem to find information about what the procedure entails (which is great, obviously) but not much about real life experiences from other parents whose children have been through this. Everything i’ve read seems very doom and gloom, therefore looking to hear from other parents about the procedure, how it went and how your child faired and recovery etc?

I have two sons, 5 and 3 years old. It is my 5 year old who is going through this and fair to say he is far less concerned than me! 🤦‍♂️😂

If anyone who has experience in this and is happy to share you’d be helping provide clarity and it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!

My eldest had this. No problems at all, op took about an hour, we were home a couple of hours later, he was back at school two days later.

Thank you for sharing that. Glad to hear he was ok so soon after it 😁

Hi, DS had this. Similar to the pp the procedure took just under an hour. No complications and was back to his usual self within a couple of days.

Still has the teddy he was given by the hospital for being brave which was a fondly loved favourite for a few years after and all he remembers about it now is it all being a bit of an adventure, getting a toy and being fussed over by everyone 😃.

In all honesty DH and I were far more stressed by the experience than he was (by a considerable margin) 😂

Just to add the worst bit was only one parent was allowed to be there when they administered the general anaesthetic. I volunteered for that.

DS was great (sat on my lap being cuddled as it was administered) and super brave but I was totally unprepared for the speed and experience of him going under and quickly becoming floppy in my arms.

I found that quite upsetting and wish I’d been better prepared for that. Thankfully he was fast asleep before I lost it and burst into tears. Medical staff were lovely, kind and supportive.

I’m just mentioning it so if the rules are the same you have time to consider which parent might be best to cover this aspect of the procedure and to be better emotionally prepared than I was.

Thank you for sharing that, glad to hear that he was so brave and back to his self after a couple of days 😁 definitely something to
consider which parent goes with him and we’ll do that in good time before it happens. Thanks again 😁
