Lullabies

How many parents actually sing lullabies to their babies/infants these days? It was something quite normal as recently as the 1930s and 40s yet it seems to have gone out of fashion. That was brought home to me by a migrant neighbour who calls herself "an Indian woman but not the kind from India" - she's Oglala. She sang my granddaughter one used back home and her mom sang to her while tapping on a small ornate drum. It was lovely and almost sent me into a trance. She was amazed we have stopped using this method to calm our tots.

I have a song I sing my DC if they’re struggling to settle, it’s not a traditional lullaby but I end up singing it on repeat 🙃

I do! I LOVE it. I rock and cuddle them to sleep and I always sing.

So many benefits for babies and mothers alike. I've been reading a new piece of reasearch about the benefits of singing for postpartum mothers and another which tested the effects of babies in nicus having their mothers sing to them....amazing.

I sing to my children. I don't find it makes much difference to them really, but it helps me to feel calm when they're crying.

I used to sing Jerusalem to mine every night (yes really). Also various folk songs and hymns from come and Praise because those are the songs I know. Was very sad when it stopped

I love nursery rhymes. All mine had some form of nursery rhyme CD/cassette for the car and vhs/ DVD for at home..
On YouTube they have my & my kids kids all time favourite "golden nursery rhyme vhs" where all the kids and adults are dressed up victorian style.
Also big fans of the wiggles !

Always did nursery rhymes at bedtime, ending with twinkle twinkle

I have always sung to my children at bedtime! Even my nearly 9yo still asks for the old lullabies sometimes. I always offer stories and songs. And for when I'm not there, they have recordings of me singing on their yoto cards 😂
