What age did you stop taking a buggy on holiday?

We have two children just turned 3 and 5. We’re going on holiday next week and I’m wondering if we should still take a buggy for our 5 year old. We will definitely be taking one for our 3 year old. 5 yo DD never uses a buggy at home but I’m wondering if it is unreasonable to take one on holiday for her. It’s not a hugely active holiday but I’d like her to be able to have a rest in the buggy in the afternoon as we go for a walk? She absolutely does not nap, not ever, even on holiday when she’s undoubtedly up much later than she normally is so she will need a bit of down time in the afternoon. If we don’t take one I have visions of her complaining about her tired legs, being too hot, wanting to use our toddlers buggy etc. but I’m wondering if it’s ridiculous to have our quite tall 5 year old in a buggy.

is it possible to attach a buggy board to your buggy so she doesn’t have to walk the whole way? I wouldn’t take a buggy for a 5 yo though and would just let the 3yo and 5yo take turns if the 5yo does need ten minutes in the buggy.

I think you'll be ok with one buggy. The 5yo can have a turn while the 3yo walks or is carried.

About 3 and half we stopped

Agree with the buggy board suggestion. Also, if you have a carrier that goes up to toddler size (like some of the ergobaby ones for example), could you put your toddler in it on your back for a bit whilst the 5yo has a rest in the buggy?

Four. And the only reason we took one then was because of the airport being so large, and our flight being stupidly early

I thought you were going to ask about taking a buggy for the 3yo 😂

No I wouldn't take one for a 5yo. I wouldn't take one for my just turned 3yo either. We didn't when we went away last week (my kids are same age as yours). Every child is different though, you know what your children can cope with.

I honestly can’t imagine my five year old in a buggy.

Agree with others I wyjust take buggy for 3 year old and buggy board or scooter for 5 year old.

Pugglywuggly · 10/04/2026 07:55

I wouldn't bother. I've got a nearly five year old and a nearly three year old. When we went last year (so just four and just two) we took it and didn't use it at all.

What is the weight limit on board?

This happened to me on holiday when my youngest was 5. However, we were trying to see some significant historical places, one of which was massive - we wouldn't have needed it otherwise. In any case, I spent a lot of the holiday wishing we did have it (we hadn't considered it), because he was too hot and tired to walk and let us know about it!
