Last minute potty training tips please?

DD is 2y3mo. Very bright so this weekend (starting tomorrow as im part time so Overall we'll have 4 days before returning to work / nursery) we are attempting potty training

She tells me when she's pooing in her nappy. If I ever leave it off and she does something she tells me and wants to clean it up so there's good signs

Any last tips for success? Last potting training was 2years ago with our eldest but he is being referred to be assessed for autism/aspergers so it'll be hard to compare as he still has some accidents

And even though it was only 2years ago I feel like ive forgot how I did it!

This is what worked for me. Not sure this is quite what you were after but hope you find something useful here!

  • Four days might be optimistic but you can make good progress in this time if they are ready and could be good timing if nursery can continue the work! Do make sure you tell them, ideally before you have started it. They will want to know what the cue is for her needing the loo so that they can watch for it. Take spare clothes to nursery.
  • Talk about using the toilet once she feels she needs to go - the whole process and call it using the toilet instead of using a nappy so she knows she needs to do the same as you basically and it's the same process at nursery too not just at your house...it sometimes surprising the questions they'll come out with.
  • Then take her to choose some pants that she likes so it's fun if you haven't already.
  • Most importantly, get into a routine with her drinks and food and when you take her to the potty or toilet. Try and notice when she has drunk and when she next wees so that will help you when you are out of the house and planning toilet trips (or portable potty use)
  • Take her every half hour if you like but definitely before you leave the house.
  • Take a portable potty with you if you go out for long in the car.
  • Get more toilet paper in the house than you would normally and keep some in the car and pram too!!
  • Carry spare pants for her with you where ever you go and spare clothes.
  • Some stickers to mark success or other small thing so progress is rewarded.
  • Lots of praise!

Good luck!

My advice is: do not stress about it. It will be annoying and take a lot longer than you’re expecting. It’s a marathon not a sprint, those ‘done in a weekend’ books are total bollocks. It’s a process.

Remember you’re guiding them, not instructing them. Don’t get cross about accidents, don’t get upset. Like how much they actually eat, this is something you can’t physically control.

Give yourself breaks. If you’re fed up out on pull ups and go out to the soft play or something.

Oh I’ve just seen you’ve already done it once. You’ll be fine!
