Nappy folds, liners and leaky poo

I am using muslin squares on my 5 week old, in the origami fold, with nippas and Airflow wraps. I have had no leaks with these, unlike when he's in the disposables. However, when he does a poo, it goes everywhere in the nappy and all over the wrap, getting into the binding and threatening his clothes.
Is there a better fold to use with muslins?
Also, I am not convinced I'm using the liners correctly, I've got flushables, and am using them ripped in half because they're too big, with most of it over the back of the nappy. They seem to have one side shinier than the other, but I don't know which side I should be using, and haven't been able to tell the difference.
I'm not going to be able to use cloth full-time until I've sorted it, so I hope you lovely ladies have some suggestions!

xx

Hmm not much help with nappy folds I'm afraid, have you checked out the nappy lady site she has lots of info on folds there.

I would ditch the paper liners for such a small baby; tbh they don't really need them. I found paper liners just made the poo explode further. If you do want to stick with liners, I would recommend trying fleece ones instead.

Thanks, the liners do seem to be pretty useless at the minute. His poo is very sticky however, and requires a good scrub out under the tap before it goes in the bucket, so I'd prefer a liner that worked really. How do fleece liners work? Is there much poo handling involved?

Well surely a 5wo's poo is still just runny - just chuck it in the bucket and then straight in the machine, it will all wash out I promise .

Once weaned onto solids the poo gets more well...solid..so you can just flick it off a fleece liner into the loo (admittedly occasionally I have to hold it in the toilet and dunk/flush)

It is sticky, rather than runny, I'd have to say, but this is my first baby poo experience!

Try just putting it in the bucket without rinsing, honestly I have never rinsed baby poo off nappies/liners.

My motto is "if it doesn't come off with a flick and a flush, then it goes straight into the bucket"

Do you soak or dry pail and what temp do you wash at?

I dry pail and wash every 2-3 days at 60 deg with a prewash (I have 2 in nappies and a large capacity machine!). Sometimes I put some PHP (or similar enviromentally friendlier) nappy soak in with a small scoop of powder.
