Potential Scarlett fever

TLDR - I think my daughter has had Scarlett fever? But she’s on the mend. Do I need to get her antibiotics?

My 4 year old came home from school early on Thursday with fever and chills - she spent that afternoon asleep and had a raging temp Thursday night. Yesterday (Friday) she was sofa bound, with a mild temp, barely ate. Today’s she’s started to return to normal and has picked up her eating. She’s a touch pale on her face.

She had a noticeably white fuzzy tongue yesterday (I tried to brush it each time I did her teeth). Today it’s bright red and bumpy - looks just like strawberry tongue when I googled it, leading me to think she’s had Scarlett fever.

She does have small patches of dry sandpaper like skin - but that’s quite normal for her anyway so doesn’t seem like a sure thing.

Google seems to suggest antibiotics are needed etc. but given she’s clearly turned a corner it seems a bit unnecessary to look for medical help. Thoughts?

If it is Scarlett fever it’s a notifiable disease so school will need to be informed. Yes she will need antibiotics for it. My daughter had it last year nursery had to be informed and the doctor had to complete paperwork. She perked up very quickly after antibiotics. Hope your little one feels better

My daughter didn’t require antibiotics a couple of years ago, but if you’re worried check with your GP

Call 111 now and ask for their advice. All I know is kids can perk up and then go downhill again very quickly and it's a notifiable disease. Also worth mentioning in your school group chat etc so other parents can keep a vigilant eye out on their kids x
