One year old daily poonamis - help!

I am talking the ones that it doesn't matter if you get the world's most expensive, elite "poonami" proof nappy. There is only one winner here. It must come out with such force and there is SO much of it that it ends up all over his legs, his back, his clothes, and - because he normally decides to do it first thing in the morning - his sleeping bag.

This has been going on for 4 weeks now. The GP said it would take a while for the gut to resettle after Norovirus but it still doesn't seem normal as last time after Norovirus it was 2 weeks to resettle. They were really reluctant to prescribe anything to help.

But there must be something we can do? Either me or hubby are late for work nearly every day because of this (thankfully we have understanding employers).

DS is otherwise a really happy child. Eats well (too well?), plays well, naps well, sleeps well.

I'd be inclined to size up on his nappy and see if that helps.

Have they become temporarily lactose intolerant, can happen after an illness?

I was coming on to say are giving dairy. I noticed my son wasn’t getting any better after he had a sickness bug and it was milk making him poorly.

He only has one milk a day now, just the nighttime bottle. He would have a small yogurt or some cheese sometimes during the day.

We’ve just had the exact same thing with my one year old. We cut out dairy for him and he improved massively over night and was totally back to normal in a few days. That was about a month ago and he still can’t tolerate lactose but from what I’ve read it can take 6-8 weeks before they start being able to tolerate it again.

Another vote for completely removing dairy for a while. We’ve had this with our one year old. We cut it completely in early Feb after 2 weeks of appalling nappies following a night of sickness. We’re now gradually in the process of reintroduction - she can have butter and milk cooked into things and a bit of butter on toast but we’re still giving oat milk as her drink and haven’t tried cheese yet.
She’s had such a run of illnesses and teething, I’ve been reluctant to add too much back in and risk making her sleep even worse!

Fat and bananas are both good for toddler diarrhoea (which isn't your issue, but the same diet can help). Eg avocado or peanut butter and banana, especially at dinner time. Might just help everything travel more slowly through the gut as it recovers.
